Eleanore (Backfisch) Lindemann

    Eleanore D. Lindemann (91) of Bismarck passed away August 30, 2024, at Mandan in the care of hospice. Services will be held at 10:00 AM CDT on Friday, September 6, 2024 at Golgotha Lutheran Church, Golden Valley, ND with Pastor J. Scott Pierson officiating. Cremation has taken place. Burial will follow at Golgotha Lutheran Cemetery, Golden Valley, ND.

     Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 PM CDT on Thursday at Barbot Funeral Home, Beulah, ND.

    Eleanore was born on November 29th, 1932, to William and Katherine (Dockter) Backfisch on the ranch south of Golden Valley. She was the youngest of five children. She attended country school and then Golden Valley High School graduating in 1950.

    Eleanore married Wm. J. (Bill) Lindemann at Golgotha Lutheran Church in Golden Valley on August 18th, 1950. They made their home in Golden Valley where they raised their four children: John, Carol, Lori, and Julie. Bill passed away in 2007 after 57 years of marriage, and Eleanore remained in the family home until 2023 when she decided to move to Edgewood Village in Bismarck.

    For a short time after she married Bill, Eleanore worked for Floyd Sperry in his law office in Golden Valley. Later she worked in the family construction business. She also worked for the USPS in Golden Valley starting as Clerk and retiring as Postmaster in 1992. In her spare time, Eleanore enjoyed gardening, sewing, and reading. In 1995, she and Bill accompanied John and Renee on a trip to Alaska. This was possibly the first vacation they had together that did not include an auction sale looking for used parts or machinery. Before moving to Bismarck, Eleanore was a member of the Golden Valley Senior Citizens and looked forward to visiting with friends at their monthly meeting. She also enjoyed her frequent afternoon card games and lunches with her close friends Corrine, Gertie, Bert, Renate, Janet, and Marion.

    Eleanore was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Bill; two brothers, Robert (Ida) and Roland (Irene) Backfisch; one sister, Ruth (George) Gulley; and son-in-law, Randy Eldridge of Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada. She is survived by her sister Florence (Elmer) Sasse, age 102, of California; her four children, John (Renee) Lindemann, Golden Valley; Carol Eldridge, Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada; Lori (Brian) Wangler, Bismarck, and Julie (Brenden) Brinkman, Golden Valley. She is also survived by grandchildren Kandie (Scott Hellman) Lindemann; Kathy (Gary) Fitterer; Nicole Gabel; William (Courtney) Eldridge; Sam and Ben Wangler; Alexis (Jamie) Baxley; and Clay (Niki MacLeod) Brinkman; nine great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
