Eunice (Bergo) Sackman

Eunice May Sackman, 92, a long-time resident of Beulah, ND, passed away Saturday, September 19, 2020 at Knife River Care Center, Beulah. Due to Covid-19 precautions, private family services will be held.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 PM CDT on Tuesday, September 22 at Barbot Funeral Home, Beulah.

Eunice was born in Turtle Lake, ND on September 16, 1928, the fourth of nine children born to Carl and Edna (Peterson) Bergo. She was baptized into Christ on February 3, 1929 and confirmed on December 21, 1941, both at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. On February 24, 1947, Eunice married Ruben Sackman, her husband of 49 years. The couple raised four daughters. In 1957, Eunice and Ruben moved to Beulah and purchased what became Sackman’s Dry Cleaners. They proudly operated their business for 38 years, retiring in 1994.

Eunice enjoyed gardening, sewing, winning at cards, making candy with her special friend, Leeta Aanderud, their lake cabin, and especially spending time with her children/ grandchildren/ great-grandchildren/great-great-grandchildren, as well as her numerous nieces and nephews.

Eunice is survived by her daughters, Karen Mohl and Sharon (Dennis) Bauer, all of Beulah and Jan (Tim) Krause of St. Cloud, MN; three siblings, Beatrice Affeldt of St. Cloud, MN, Alfred Bergo of Des Moines, IA and Bruce (Roxann) Bergo of Wahpeton, ND; her sister-in-law, Arlene Sackman; and her brother-in-law, Ernie Ibach. She was also an amazing grandmother to seven grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

She will once again be joined with her husband, Ruben; her daughter, Terry Bergo and her son-in-law, Dwight Mohl. She was also preceded in death by her siblings, Mildred (Roy) Herring, Irma (Adolph) Herring, Alton (Mavis) Bergo, Jane (Harold) Fetzer, and Verdeen (Russell) Stadler; her brothers-in-law, Harold Affeldt, Dale Sackman, and Eugene Sackman; and her sisters-in-law, Jordis Bergo and Cleo Sackman.

Eunice’s family would like to sincerely thank the staff and management at Senior Suites for the amazing care and love they gave mom while she was a resident. They would also like to thank the staff at Knife River Care Center and Sakakawea Hospice for all you did to keep mom comforted in her final days. A special thank you to Pastor Mary Lou Aune for her kind and comforting words and prayers for mom and our family.
