Obituary

Fredrich Theodore Buechler, 76, of Beulah, ND passed away Friday, February 18, 2022, at CHI St. Alexius, Bismarck, ND.  Services will be held at 10:00 AM CST, Wednesday, February 23, 2022, at the Beulah Congregational Church, Beulah with Pastor Istvan Vasarhelyi officiating.  Burial will follow at Peace Cemetery, south of Beulah.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.

Fred was born December 3, 1945, (12345) to Theodore Buechler and Lydia Flemmer in Beulah, ND. He was the first of two children. Fred grew up north of Zap and graduated from Beulah High School. He married Patsy Keller in 1966, and to this union two children were born, Lynn Dell and Scott. Fred taught them a strong work ethic, how to fix anything with a “can-do” attitude, and to care for others. He was proud of their accomplishments and his grandchildren.

Fred started working at a young age and held various jobs. He worked at Galloway Super Valu where his work experience led him to be a master at meat processing.  Fred was always willing to help and share this knowledge with many friends and family. He then worked multiple positions for Knife River/Westmoreland and was very well respected. Fred was a member of the local miner unions and held many offices. He made a big impact and was significant in negotiating many contracts.  Fred retired after 42 years.

Fred moved a house to the family farmland in 1983.  He worked hard to remodel and make a comfortable homestead. He could often be found farming or fixing things. Fred was very practical, if he could find a part, he could fix it. Many friends and neighbors called or stopped by for a lending hand or a good conversation. Fred was a good friend and always had a smile on his face. He left his mark on so many with his caring nature, generosity, wisdom, sense of humor, and respect.  Fred was known for his one-liners and if you were feeling down, you always left Fred’s feeling a little lighter.

Fred was a member of the Harley Owner Group and the Roughrider Harley-Davidson Club. He enjoyed numerous motorcycle trips across the country with friends.  He loved to ride and view the sights with friends by his side. Many times, he said “It’s amazing how beautiful the land is that God created.” Last spring, he fulfilled a desire to see the Harley-Davidson Museum in Milwaukee. Throughout the years, Fred took part in many snowmobile trips and created many lasting memories. When work was done, Fred liked to be on the lake with a fishing rod in his hand. He participated in leagues for bowling, horseshoe, darts, pool, and corn hole, where he enjoyed the competition but more so the camaraderie.

Even in his final days, Fred maintained his quick wit and positive attitude leaving a lasting impression having said “I’ve had a good ride…I know where I’m going.”

Fred was preceded in death by his parents and brother, David. He survived by his children, Lynn Dell (Bill) Looby and Scott (Melissa) Buechler; grandchildren, Ragan & Landon Looby and Ethan, Brinley, Braxton & Chloe Buechler; aunts, many cousins, including his best friend, Kathy Maas.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks to donate to the American Cancer Society, 2401 46th Ave SE Ste 102, Mandan, ND 58554.
