Frieda was born in rural Golden Valley, ND, to John and Martha (Weidner) Schwartzmann. She was the 7th of 8 children born to this union. Frieda grew up on the farmlands of ND, north of Golden Valley and south of Beulah, attending elementary school in Beulah. After 19 years of marriage, Frieda's parents divorced in 1938. Her mother remarried in Sept, 1941, to Gottlieb Weil. Within 4 years the family moved to Vashon Island, Washington.
Frieda married Eddie Tschaekofske, a North Dakota native, in Vashon, Washington, on 10/6/ 1946. The couple lived in Washington until 1948 at which time they returned to ND. They lived on several farms until 1952 when the couple moved to Hazen, ND. They became active members of St. Matthew Lutheran Church for over 50 years, during which time Frieda was a long-time Sunday and Bible School teacher. Frieda remained a homemaker until 1973, when she began a long and fruitful career in the Hazen School kitchen. There she plied her great German-Russian cooking skills and work ethic until 2004, when she retired. Besides being a meticulous housekeeper (there wasn’t a dust bunny that stood a chance against her can of Pledge), Frieda enjoyed time with family, gardening and baking. She had a wonderful sense of humor and was quick with a witty remark and a smile. Frieda adored her grandchildren and always looked forward to spending time with them. She and sister, Ann Weil, were especially close as they were the only family members who returned to ND from WA.
Following Eddie’s death in 2009, Frieda lived at home until beginning residence at the Knife River Care Center in Beulah, ND, in April of 2017. The family would like to thank the staff of KRCC for the love and care they gave our Frieda. She loved you all.
Frieda and Eddie had three children (2 sons and 1 daughter). Frieda is survived by her children, Ron (Shirley) Tschaekofske of Parkers Prairie, MN, Kathy Carroll of rural Hazen, ND, and daughter-in-law Jackie Tschaekofske of Hazen, one sister, Marty Collette of Port Orchard, WA, five grandchildren, Aaron (Bri) Tschaekofske, MN, Heather Tschaekofske (Jeremy) Zwifel, WA, Nikki Tschaekofske (Doug) Leidholm, Hazen, ND, Derrick Aemisegger, Fargo, ND, Alex Aemisegger (fiancé Laura), Jamestown, ND, and four great-grandchildren, Everett Tschaekofske, Hadley Tschaekofske, Isaac Zwifel, and Addison Leidholm, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Frieda was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Eddie; son, LeRoy; baby granddaughter Sonja; son-in-law, Jon Carroll; four sisters, Olga Kellog, Ida Betz, Linda Miller and Ann Weil; and two brothers, Albert and Richard Schwartzmann.
