Gerald Knoell

Gerald “Jerry” P. Knoell, 81, of Hazen, ND passed away on April 11, 2023. Services will be held at 10:00 AM CDT on Saturday, April 15, 2023 at Peace Lutheran Church, Hazen with Pastor Mark Martin officiating. Burial will follow at Peace Lutheran Cemetery, Hazen.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 PM CDT on Friday, April 14, 2023 at Barbot Funeral Home, Beulah.

Jerry was born on July 10, 1941 in Hazen, ND to Edward and Martha (Zuern) Knoell. He was raised and educated in Hazen and graduated with the class of 1959. Jerry served in the US Army from 1959 to 1962, serving part of his enlistment in Korea. He also served in the ND Army National Guard, retiring in 1994.

On October 5, 1962, Jerry married Karen Rueb at Zion Lutheran Church, Beulah. The couple lived in Beulah until buying Jerry’s parent’s farm in Hazen in 1974. Jerry worked for Meyer Construction, the MDU power plant, Tri-County Implement, J&J Incorporated, Liebelt Chevrolet, Miller Implement and Hazen Public School.

Jerry was member of Peace Lutheran Church and served on the church council. He was also a member of the American Legion and spent many years on the Honor Guard. Jerry was a lifetime member of the VFW and the Amvets and also donated his time as a 4-H leader. He enjoyed woodworking, restoring tractors and his Ford toy car collection. His love of God, his family, friends and country were the most important things in his life.

Jerry is survived by his wife, Karen of Hazen; his children, Brent (Marcy) Knoell, Kristie (Dan) Pillar and Kimberly (Brian) Nolan, all of Hazen; his grandchildren, Allison (Zach) Spychalla, Emily (Mason) Kossan, Elizabeth Nolan, Isabella Nolan, Kaelee (Jackson) Wallace and Gered Knoell; two great-grandchildren, Oliver and Mackenzie; one sister-in-law, Marianne Van Oort; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, LeRoy (Shirley) and Ervin; and one sister, Elma (Dick) Barth.

Arrangements are conducted by Barbot Funeral Home, Beulah and Hazen.
