Gertrude "Gertie" Retzer Obituary

Gertrude (Gertie) Carolina Schaper-Retzer, 93, of Beulah, passed away Tuesday, December 22, 2020, at the Hilltop Home of Comfort, Killdeer, ND.  No services are planned at this time.

Gertie was born on October 11, 1927, on the family farm eight miles north of Halliday to Henry and Katherine (Stohler) Schaper.  She was baptized on November 20, 1927 at St. John’s Lutheran Church.  Her Godparents were Fred and Caroline Gegelman.  She was confirmed on July 26, 1940, by Pastor Gievers.  She married David Retzer on May 25, 1947.  They lived on that family’s farm for 20 years before moving to Beulah.  They lived a short time in Bismarck and Washburn before moving back to Beulah.  Dave died on December 1, 2015 and in Februery of 2016, Gertie moved to the Hilltop Home of Comfort in Killdeer.  Gertie enjoyed her flower and strawberry beds.  She held various jobs before retiring in 1992. 

She is survived by her daughter, Jane (Jule Knight); four grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; three sisters and two brothers.

Gertie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 68 years, Dave; one daughter, Sandi Zinke; two sons-in-law; four brothers and three sisters.
