Gordon Schmidt

Gordon Schmidt, 93, passed away February 9, 2026 at the Knife River Care Center, Beulah, ND. Funeral services will be held 1:30 PM CST Saturday, April 4, 2026 at Cornerstone Church, 111 East Wachter Avenue, Bismarck ND, with a burial to take place at a later date at the ND Veterans Cemetery in Mandan, ND. A visitation will be held Friday, February 27, 2026 from 2 to 4 PM CST at Barbot Funeral Home, Beulah, ND.

Gordon was the eldest of ten children of William and Clara (Hartwig) Schmidt. He was raised and educated in Beulah, but only completed two days of the eighth grade. He went on to work with his father. He later married Jo Anne Fetch, and they celebrated their 70 year union.

In 1950, Gordon had worked on the construction of the Garrison Dam. The following year he had gone to Army Basic Training in Hawaii. Gordon served in Kora in the 25th Infantry Division. He had earned the Combat Infantry Badge, UN Service Medal, and Korean Service Medal with two Bronze Stars.

Gordon worked for Northern Improvement Company for 37 years. He started as a water boy and worked his way up to Superintendent at Northern Improvement. He then worked for the City of Beulah until his retirement.

Gordon is survived by his wife, Jo Anne, Daughter Diane (David) Olson, sons Kevin (Tanya) and Darin, eight Grandchildren and eighteen Great-Grandchildren, Eight siblings; brothers: Fred, Orville, Mylo and Hilbert (Alice), Sisters: Dell Kuk, Nettie (Gene) Metzger, Sharon Doffee, Aloha Raber, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Gordon was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Leroy, and daughter Suzanne Beth.
