Grace Janssen Obituary

Grace Ellen (Price) Janssen, 86 of Bismarck, died Sunday, March 13, 2022 at Augusta Place, Bismarck, ND.  Services will be held at 11:00 AM CDT on Friday, March 18, 2022 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Bismarck with Pastor Julie Anderson officiating.  Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 PM on Thursday at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan.  Burial will follow at Pleasant Valley Cemetery, north of Hannover, ND.

Grace was born on April 20, 1935, in Bismarck, ND to Thomas and Helen (Hagerott) Price.  Her early years were spent running the US Mail to and from the Galloping Goose (NP train), chasing turkeys, pigs and cattle.  In 1954, she graduated from Mandan High School and then continued her education at NDSU graduating in 1957 with a Bachelor’s degree in Home Economics. Through the years Grace enjoyed cooking, and sewing projects. She made several textile projects such as drapes, curtains, and bedding to decorate her homes, along with outfits, clothing, and apparel items for herself and family members. She was an excellent seamstress who even sewed her own wedding gown.

On June 24, 1956, Grace married Kent Janssen at First Lutheran Church, Mandan, ND.  Their son, Bruce Lee was born December 23, 1957, and Laura Jean was born July 28, 1959.  Grace was blessed with five grandchildren; Kelsey and Noah Kupcho, Kirsten, Eric and Sarah Janssen and four great-grandchildren.

Grace and Kent traveled all over the United States taking many fun and memorable trips with family members, along with traveling to many different countries, as well, including Canada Europe, Japan, and South Africa. Grace was involved in 4-H, Homemakers, Tuesday Topics, Meals-on-Wheels and activities at Good Shepard Lutheran Church. She visited nursing homes and included the lonely for holiday meals.

Grace had the most wonderful and contagious laugh, she loved to have fun and lived to make memories and create moments with the ones she loved and held dear. She also had the incredible gift to remember the simplest, but yet, unforgettable times with family and loved ones. There was never a story she wouldn’t be able to share, and with the most specific and enriched details. She was also incredible at documenting the things that meant the most to her, whether it was through notes, letters, or even photographs. You always knew she’d find a remarkable way to keep those hallmark moments alive. There is no doubt that her stories, life, and legacy will continue to live on through these incredible ways she chose to keep her story alive! What an honor and joy it was to know, love, and be loved by Grace.

Grace is survived by her husband, Kent; son, Bruce (Brenda) Janssen; son-in-law, Boone Kupcho; grandchildren, Kelsey, Noah, Kirsten, Eric and Sarah; four great grand-children; one sister, Dorothy Keck ; three brothers, Donald (JoAnn) Price, Thomas Price and Douglas (Marlene) Price; one sister-in-law, Sharon Price; and numerous nieces and nephews.
