Harlan “Harry” Benz, 70, of Hazen, ND passed away Tuesday, June 21, 2022 at Prospera Community on Sunset, Mandan, ND. Services will be held at 10:00 AM CDT on Friday, June 24, 2022 at Peace Lutheran Church, Hazen with Pastor Mark Martin officiating. Burial will follow at Peace Lutheran Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 PM CDT on Thursday, June 23 at Barbot Funeral Home, Beulah.
Harry was born on January 20, 1952 in Hazen, ND to Harold and Agnes (Reinhardt) Benz. He was raised and educated in Hazen. In 1970, Harry attended Bismarck Junior College for mechanics. He worked for Paul Reichenberg for a time before moving to Illinois to work for F&E, assembling draglines. In the early 1980s, Harry began working for Knife River Coal and later became employed with Dakota Westmoreland. He retired from Dakota Westmoreland after 35 years. Harry enjoyed farming and ranching while working full time at the coal mine.
He is survived by his mother, Agnes of Hazen and numerous nieces and nephews.
Harry was preceded in death by his father, Harold and two sisters, Judy Plettl and Donna Benz.
Arrangements are conducted by Barbot Funeral Home, Beulah and Hazen.
