Harvey W Schmitz

Harvey W. Schmitz, (Pickles) 87, formally of Halliday, ND, passed away on December 26, 2023

Harvey W. Schmitz, son of William and Maude Schmitz, was born on October 27, 1936, at Little Falls MN. Shortly after his birth, Maude and Harvey returned to Halliday to join William.  Harvey attended Halliday Public School. He spent a short time in the Navy and went to the Wahpeton State School of Science in the electrical program.

In 1957 he returned to Halliday, where he replaced his father, working for the North Dakota State Highway Department until 1976. For a while he worked for the City of Halliday and the fire department. He was on the Halliday Park Board and was a Halliday Lion member for many years.

In 1980 he purchased the Laundromat in Halliday and ran it for the next ten years while also working for the National Weather Service. He also worked for several construction companies during that time.

Harvey’s favorite hobby was fishing. He was a member of B.A.S.S and a North American Fishing Club Trophy Life Member. He was also a member of the American Legion since 1986. Harvey also loved cats and took in any strays that he came across.

He was preceded in death by his parents (William and Maude Schmitz).
