Howard Torgerson Obituary

Howard C Torgerson, 69, Beulah passed away peacefully on October 6, 2021 at the Knife River Care Center, Beulah. Services will be held on Tuesday October 12, 2021 at 10:00 am CST at Zion Lutheran Church in Beulah with the burial in Bainville, MT at 3:00 pm CST.

Visitation will be from 5:00 – 7:00 pm CST on Monday October 11, 2021 at Barbot Funeral Home.

Howard was born in Kenmare, ND on April 25, 1952, son of Melvin and Margaret Torgerson. His family lived in Woburn, ND until moving to Bainville, MT where he started first grade. After graduating from Bainville High School in 1970 he attended two years of college in Williston, ND where he met the girl of his dreams, “Marian the Librarian” aka Theresa Rolfstad aka Teri. They both transferred to the University of Montana where Howard earned his bachelor’s degree in business finance. His first job was with the Bank of Montana system in Chinook, MT and Howard and Theresa were married that summer on August 17, 1974. Future promotions led him to banks in Chester, MT and Rudyard, MT. He was very proud to be a bank president at the age of 29, but his two proudest moments were when his kids, Jodie and Kyle, were born.

He cherished the lifelong friendships they made living in Montana, but his strong leadership skills and wanting to move closer to family called him in 1990 to be the President of the Bank of Beulah in Beulah, ND until his retirement in 2007. His family was the most important part of his life. He was always finding ways to enjoy every moment he could with them. His love of sports started in high school. First playing, then refereeing with his brother Brent. He especially followed the Beulah Miners and was so proud of being a part of the football ‘Chain Gang’. He also was an avid follower of the Vikings and Twins. He enjoyed playing softball, golfing and bowling. He also enjoyed pinochle and cribbage. Howard was very involved in the communities he lived in belonging to the Chamber, Lions, Eagles, Senior Citizens, and Historical Society.

Howard is survived by his wife, Theresa of Beulah; daughter Jodie (Ryan) Martens of Beulah,  and son, Kyle (Stacy) Torgerson of Greenwood, IN; the joy of his life were his four grandchildren, Olivia, Laisha, Liam and Callan; Siblings, Billie Lou (Chris) Giese, Brent (Carrie) Torgerson, Brian (Kristy) Torgerson, and Doug (Debra) Torgerson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Margaret and Melvin, and numerous aunts and uncles.

Howard was always a HUGE Beulah Miners fan of all sports, from when his own kids played, all the way through today watching his granddaughters. His family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Beulah Quarterback Club, a local charity club that supports all Beulah Miner student athletes.

Arrangements conducted by Barbot Funeral Home, Beulah and Hazen.
