Irene was born on October 28, 1927, in Hazen, ND, to Martin and Amalie (Lauf) Kilber. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church in rural Hazen and was educated in the rural school nearby. On June 16, 1946, Irene married Walter Mohl and they began their family life together in Pick City, ND, while Walter worked at the Garrison Dam. As their family began to grow, Walter and Irene did farming in rural Pick City and Halliday, had a business in Underwood and lastly settled in Hazen, ND, in 1961. In addition to being a wife, mother and homemaker, Irene worked in various restaurants and cafes in Hazen for many years. She was well-known for her fleischkuechle and pizza. Irene enjoyed reading, watching favorite TV shows, playing cards, dancing, bingo, spending time with friends; and would always have a good joke to share.

Irene is also survived by three brothers and three sisters-in-law, Edgar Kilber, Albert (Marguerite) Kilber, Robert Kilber, Ardis Kilber and DeLora Kilber; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Walter Mohl; brothers Elmer (Wilma) Kilber, Loren Kilber, and Martin Kilber; sister, Elsie Miller, and two infant sisters, Alice and Helen; and her son-in-law, David Cook.
