Irma Drath, 100, of Hazen, ND passed away Thursday, December 29, 2022 at Sakakawea Medical Center, Hazen. Services will be held at 10:00 AM CST on Wednesday, January 4, 2023 at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Hazen with Pastor Kirk Peters officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.
Irma was born on June 9, 1922 in Hazen to Herbert and Leontina (Bohrer) Schramm. She was baptized, confirmed and married at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Hazen. Irma attended country school and graduation from Hazen High School in 1939. She went on to attend Dickinson State College and taught country school for several years. She married Ervin Drath in 1943. The couple lived on a farm north of Hazen until 1968. Irma worked at Hanewald and Weigum Store and Union State Bank until she retired. Irma loved to read, sew, embroider, quilt and write letters. She did work for Braille at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, was an active LWML member and helped sew quilts.
Irma is survived by her daughter, Bette Thorson of Mandan; her son, John of Hazen; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Herb (Inez) of Sacramento, CA; special friend, Kathy Nordgren; two sisters-in-law, Orgena Schramm and Wilma Thorson, both of Bismarck; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ervin; her parents; her son-in-law, Charles Thorson; one sister, LaVern Mueller; brothers, Helmuth, Art and Newton; and one infant brother, LeRoy.
We want to thank Terry and her staff at Senior Suites for taking such good care of our Mom and always making her feel at home.
