Jack Schutt Obituary

Jack Schutt, 85, of Beulah, North Dakota died peacefully surrounded by his loving, caring family on Thursday, April 20, 2023 at Knife River Care Center, Beulah. Services will be held at 10:00 AM CDT on Tuesday, April 25, 2023 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Beulah with Fr. Thomas Grafsgaard officiating. Burial will follow at St. Benedict’s Cemetery, south of Beulah.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 PM CDT on Monday, April 24, at St. Joseph Catholic Church and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church.

Jack was born on November 21, 1937 to Joe and Bridget (Keller) Schutt on the family farm. He was delivered by midwife, Christina Schutt. Jack attended a rural country school named Burt. He received his eighth grade diploma. Jack served as an altar boy at St. Benedict Catholic Church from second through eighth grade.

In 1959, Jack went to work for Interstate Bypass in Rapid City, SD. In 1960, he worked in Oklahoma for Morris Knudson for six months until he began working for the Minute Mate Missile sites in 1961. Jack was a member of the Beulah Knights of Columbus.

In May 1962, Jack met the love of his life, Rosemary Fleck at her cousin’s wedding. They were married on April 22, 1963 at St. Anthony, ND. The day after their wedding, they were on their way to Kimball, NE where Jack was working for Morris Knudson. In 1964, he was transferred to Larimore, ND and continued working for Morris Knudson until the couple moved to the Schutt family farm in 1967. Together they ran a dairy and grain farm with their four children. Their son, Jeff, farmed with them until he took over the four generation family farm. Jack and Rose retired in 2016 but stayed on the farm. Jack entered Knife River Care Center on October 15, 2022 and lived there until his passing.

Jack loved messing around with his antique tractors. He enjoyed driving them in parades and antique tractor treks. His pride and enjoyment was driving his ATV around checking cows and all the crops around the neighborhood. He enjoyed Sunday afternoon drives with Rose.

Jack loved spending time with his four kids and their spouses. They were the world to him. His treasures were his 13 grandchildren and 14 great-grandkids. He loved when they all called him on his birthday. He would always tell them their phone calls were the only gift he enjoyed and wanted. They made his birthdays extra special.

Left with fond memories of Jack are his wife of 60 years, Rosemary; three daughters, Rebecca (Tim) Staffenhagen, Rita (Dan) Miller and Rodine (Kevin) Bondy; one son, Jeffrey (Darcy) Schutt; 13 grandchildren, Nathan (Janie Lundberg) Staffenhagen, Heather (Troy) Van Dusen, Jacob (Mary) Staffenhagen, Dustin (Allison) Miller, Eric (Megan) Miller, Nicole (Lee) Renner, Jessica (Josh) Carey, Sarah (Eddie) Alagna, Cassidy Schutt and Caitlyn (TJ) Kuhn, Faith and Brandon O’Clair and Kayla Bondy; 14 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Robert (Alberta) Schutt and Sylvester (Mary Ann) Schutt; his in-laws, Marlene and Adeline Fleck, Alphonse (Maggie) Fleck, Mike (Nancy) Fleck, Marlene (Kenny) Brilz, Bob (Ilene) Meyer, Wayne (Sally) Geiss, Don (Kathy) Erhardt, Dennis (Veronica) Erhardt and Bob (Betty) Thompson; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
