James "Jim" Berg

James “Jim” Lee Berg, 81, of Hazen, ND passed away Thursday, July 2, 2026 at CHI St. Alexius Medical Center, Bismarck, ND. Services will be held at 10:00 AM CT on Wednesday, July 8, 2026 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Center, ND with Pastor Dennis Ristvedt officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Valley Cemetery, rural Stanton, ND.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 PM CT on Tuesday, July 7 at Barbot Funeral Home, Beulah.

Jim was born on July 6, 1944 in Hazen, ND to Raymond and Marie (Meyhoff) Berg. He was raised and educated in the Pleasant Valley area, where he attended country school. He went on to attend high school in Stanton and in Center and graduated from Center High School in 1962. Following graduation, Jim worked on the family farm and also worked for the Red Owl in Bismarck for three years. He married Donna Denius in Center on May 20, 1967. The couple lived on the Berg family farm most of their married lives, where they raised their daughter, Candice. Jim and Donna moved into Hazen in 2018.

Jim was a member of the church council for several years. He and Donna enjoyed attending rodeos and the Norsk Hostfest. Farming and raising cattle were Jim’s passions in life, but he also liked to make time to visit with family and friends.

Jim is survived by his wife of 59 years, Donna of Hazen; his daughter, Candice (Wayne) Blohm of Menoken, ND; three sisters, Vicky (Dennis) Barnhardt of Lincoln, ND, Penny (Russ) Fischer of Mandan, ND, and Char (Curt) Henke of Liberty, MO; two brothers, Tim (Ann) Berg of Sun City, AZ and Dan (Terese) Berg of Bismarck; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his parents-in-law, Rose and Carl Denius; his sister and brother-in-law, Bev (Ray) Kessler; and his sister-in-law, Bernadette Flink.

Arrangements are conducted by Barbot Funeral Home, Beulah and Hazen.
