James “Jim” Grannis, 86, of Stanton, ND passed away Wednesday, August 20, 2025. Services will be held at 10:00 AM CT on Monday, August 25, 2025 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Stanton with Pastor Dennis Ristvedt officiating. Burial will follow at Stanton City Cemetery.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.
Jim was born June 15, 1939 in Underwood ND to Byron and Laverne (Mayme Brewster) Grannis. He grew up and attended school in Stanton ND. On August 16, 1963 Jim married Shirley Piatz and they made their home and raised their family in Stanton. He enlisted in the army, serving in Korea. He and Shirley successfully owned and operated THE BAR in Stanton ND. He was a proud union worker, belonging to both the iron workers local 793 and the mill right local #1091. Jim had quite the green thumb and liked gardening, hunting, farming, pitching softballs and his trips to Mexico with the ”Geratol” crew.
Jim is survived by his son Joseph (Dawn) Grannis, his grandchildren Amber (Zach) Thorne, Tiffany Grannis, Jordan Grannis (Ryan Illies), brother Terry (Esther) Grannis, sister in-law Eileen Norenberg, special friend Karen Miller, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his wife Shirley, parents Byron and Laverne, in-laws Joseph and Stella Piatz, one son James (Jimmy) Grannis, and numerous brothers and sisters in law.
Arrangements are conducted by Barbot Funeral Home, Beulah and Hazen.
