Obituary

Janice Hoffman, 83, of Hazen passed away at the Sakakawea Medical Center on February 2, 2023. Services will be held at 10 am on Friday, February 10th at Peace Lutheran Church in Hazen with Pastor Mark Martin officiating. A private family burial will take place at a later date.

Janice was born on June 28, 1939, to Leonard and Gina (Sandness) Tomt in Larimore, ND. She was the middle child of three, with Lorraine being the oldest and Shirley the youngest. They moved from Benson Corners to West Fargo when Janice was in the 4th grade. She graduated high school in 1957 from West Fargo and then went to work at Fargo Pack. In 1958 she married Glen Quenette and began working at Fargo Public Schools in the administrative office. They welcomed their son Brad in 1959 and their daughter Kim in 1961.

In 1971 Janice and Clayton Hoffman were united in marriage. Their son Christopher was born in 1973. Janice, Clayton, Brad, Kim and Chris moved to Colby, KS when Chris was only 3 weeks old. In 1977 they moved to Bismarck and then to Hazen in 1982 where Janice was employed at Union State Bank and worked there until her retirement in 2001.

Janice’s first love was music. In high school she played the saxophone and continued her passion by singing in the church choir and playing the organ and piano. She passed her love for music down to her children and grandchildren. Janice was very involved in the community which included, volunteering with Hospice, served on the Library Board, Hospital Auxiliary and many other organizations. Janice and Clayton had the opportunity to travel to various destinations during their time together. Their most satisfying trip was to their homeland of Norway and taking a cruise ship to Alaska. They have also been blessed to go on many vacations with their family and friends. In her downtime she loved to read, play cards with friends, spend time with family, play the piano and also enjoyed painting and creating charcoal drawings. She looked forward to the annual Family Games, which started in 1989 where she won the title that first year.

Janice is survived by her husband Clayton; her children Brad (Brenda) Quenette, Chris Hoffman, Vonee (Duane) Videen, Julie (Bill) Ries, and Darren (Eunsun) Hoffman; her grandchildren Kayla (Francis) Basson, Sarah Quenette, Dylan Hoffman, Luke White, Tommy White, David Hoffman, Brett Hoffman, Brooke Myogeto, Erika (Zach) Wylie, Karlie Ries, and James Hoffman; four great grandchildren; and nephew and nieces.

Janice is preceded in death by her parents, Leonard and Gina Tomt; two sisters Lorraine Dirks and Shirley Christiansen; her daughter Kim Quenette; grandson Zach Myogeto; and her two nephews.

The family requests memorials be made to the Sakakawea Medical Foundation.
