Jerome “Jerry” Miller, 86 of Hazen, ND passed away Sunday, February 11, 2024 at Sakakawea Medical Center, Hazen. Services will be held at 10:30 AM CST on Thursday, February 15, 2024 at Peace Lutheran Church, Hazen with Pastor Mark Martin officiating. Burial will follow at Peace Lutheran Cemetery, Hazen.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.
Jerome was born in Hazen on November 1, 1937 to Otto and Hertha (Weisz) Miller. He was baptized on November 28, 1937 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Krem, ND. He was a member of the first class confirmed in the new Peace Lutheran Church building in 1950. Jerome was a charter member of the first FFA chapter in Hazen. He graduated from Hazen High School in 1955. On October 2, 1957, Jerome married his beautiful and patient wife of 66 years, Ardella Kessler in Beulah, ND. A dance followed the ceremony at the Sheep Shed!
The couple spent two years in Washington State until returning home to the farm north of Hazen. Jerome always loved working with livestock and was an avid hunter. His biggest smiles came when talking about hunting and showing pictures of his grandkids, who he helped to harvest their deer.
Another favorite pastime of Jerome’s was sports. He was instrumental in starting the Bison Boosters and spent many hours at Hazen Bison sporting activities and watching the Minnesota Vikings on TV. Perhaps heaven will be better for Vikings fans!
Jerome is survived by his wife, Ardella; two daughters and sons-in-law, Ruby and Kent Freed of Washburn, ND and Amy and Scott Johnson of Valley City, ND; five grandchildren, Stoklee Miller, Dylan (Taylor) Miller, Brittany Miller, Erik Johnson and Eliza Johnson; two great-grandchildren, Ashton and Stella Miller; two sisters, JoAnn Kelley of Texas and Judy (Tom) Tuxford of Tennessee; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Arrangements are conducted by Barbot Funeral Home, Beulah and Hazen.
