Jerry Isaak Obituary

Jerry was called to his heavenly home on September 22, 2022 after a six month leukemia treatment struggle. Services will be held at 10:00 AM MDT/11:00 AM CDT on Wednesday, September 28, 2022 at the Dodge Auditorium, Dodge, ND. Burial will follow at St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery, north of Dodge.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 PM CDT on Tuesday, September 27 at Barbot Funeral Home, Beulah.

He was born on September 10, 1947 to Ernest and Alma Isaak and just celebrated his 75th birthday.  The country school near the Isaak farm occupied his first 8 years.  Then his high school years were spent in Dodge.  Following graduation, Bismarck was the point of interest where he attended the Capital Commerce College and then Bismarck Junior College.  At BJC he concentrated on his mechanics talents.  He was able to share this mechanics knowledge with Bergstedt Implement in Halliday.  Then in 1973 he decided that farming with his Dad was where he needed to be.

On June 17, 1977 he married Sandy Morast and they built their home ½ mile from the home place.  Then on July 29, 1982 the Isaak’s were blessed with their first grandchild, Shawna Kay.  Sandy’s death in 1984 was a heartbreak for all the family and Shawna spent a lot of time with grandparents.

In addition to farming and ranching, Jerry enjoyed greeting school aged children each day on the bus.  He drove the Dodge route for 17 years and encountered many snow drifts, mudholes and flat tires.  Families were joined together when Jerry married Kris Richau on May 14, 1988.

In October of 1999, Shawna was involved in a pickup accident and endured a fatal head injury.  Another heartbreak for the family.

Jerry was a very good steward of the land and was willing to share his time and experiences with others.  He was a great storyteller and was known to enjoy lengthy phone conversations.  He took great pride in his cattle herd ---- except when they became Houdini’s and slipped through the fences.

Jerry was a huge NASCAR fan and attended various NASCAR races.  It was a good day when the Chevy racers won.  He was active in various card clubs and enjoyed the fellowship.  Many Sundays were spent watching football and cheering for the Vikings.  Drag racing was another passion he shared with his family and even raced himself with his Chevelle.

During his last months spent at the Bismarck hospitals and Augusta Care Center, he was constantly amazed and even overwhelmed at the concern and love shown to him from family, friends and the community.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Ernest and Alma; wife, Sandy; daughter, Shawna; parents-in-law, Ervin and Marion Morast.

Surviving family is brother, Jim(Connie) and their children- Aaron(Jody) and Christopher(Christine); sister-in-law LouAnn Dobitz – children, Drew (Angel); Becky Johnson (Garret); Brad (Arica); sister-in-law Connie Sailer—children, Kristi Standaert (Joe); Nathan (Tiffany);  brother-in-law Dallas (Rhonda)—children, Derrick; Alicia Monson (Branden);  brother-in-law Dean (Debbie) – children, Nicole Gaab (Troy); Brendon (Samantha).
