John Michael Hagen passed from this world on June 21, 2024 to be with his Lord and Savior. He was no doubt greeted by his mother and father with much love. It had been a long and hard journey for John and now he is at peace. Services will be held at 10:00 AM CDT on Monday, July 15, 2024 at Zion Lutheran Church, Beulah with Pastor Kathleen Nygaard officiating. Burial will follow at the Beulah City Cemetery.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.
John was born in Grand Forks ND to Marian Day Hagen and Raymond Hagen on February 25, 1957. He was raised in Beulah and graduated from Beulah High School in 1975. The halls were probably lined with teachers applauding his departure, especially the principle, who had John in his office frequently. Following graduation, he spent time working and then attended school in Minot, ND for a short period of time. There he tried out for the tennis team as a walk on. He made the team and was actually granted a scholarship. John did not like going to class but had no problem participating in the partying aspect of college. He went on to work as a laborer, building power plants and later as a painter in the Beulah/Hazen area doing interior and exterior painting.
John was adventurous and mischievous, what he didn’t think of Todd, Russel and Delmer would (don’t worry boys the statute of limitations has expired). He loved Moto-Cross and spent much time riding at the Boeckel Moto-Cross Track north of Beulah. In school he could not participate in sports due to his severe asthma. He did later develop a great interest in running and exercise. He was an outgoing guy with many friends. Even if John got into trouble, it was hard to be mad at him because he was so likeable. John loved the Police, the band, not the real police, although he definitely had a relationship with them. He also enjoyed the Beatles and AC/DC, unfortunately. He was a diehard fan of the Beulah Miners and the Minnesota Vikings. John wrote poetry and tried to get it published in the 1980s but even the rejection letters did not stop him from writing. We have many of his poems to enjoy and cherish.
John was a smooth operator with the ladies as evidence of the many love letters found from girls across the state of ND in his personal possessions. He had some great girlfriends in Beulah but never married or had children (that we know of). In 1986 he sustained a brain injury and his life would be permanently altered. After his injury John tried to live the best life, he could with his limitations and did live independently for years. Eventually he needed more care and moved to a long-term care center. His family was very important to him and he cherished his brother and sisters. His nephews and nieces were the smartest because of course they were related to him! A constant jokester with a sharp wit he will be greatly missed by his family and friends. John’s three greatest loves were God, Family and Mountain Dew, in that order. John’s advice to all would be to love the Lord and treat everyone with love and kindness.
