John Hicks, 71, of Zap ND passed away at his home on January 23, 2023 after a long battle with cancer.
John was born March 17, 1951 in Mullen NE to Bill and Viola (Sissy Gorsuch) Hicks. On September 30, 1969 he married Jean Prindle of Hyannis NE and this marriage was blessed with 3 sons. John spent his life working on various ranches and feedlots in Nebraska and Kansas. In 2011 he moved to North Dakota where he worked construction and drove a truck until his retirement.
John loved to spend time outdoors, especially when camping and fishing. He was an avid fisherman and always found great happiness sharing his love of fishing with his family. John was also known for being a great cowboy. He loved raising and training horses, a passion he passed on to his three sons. John also had a strong faith in the Lord and often shared his beliefs with his family and friends.
Survivors include Jean, his beloved wife of 53 years and his three sons Jeff (Tami Coleman) of North Platte NE, John (Kori) of rural Paxton NE and Jay (Kelly Hebbert) of Golden Valley ND. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren : Brent Neal, Devin Hicks, Jessica Hicks, Dylan Hicks, Tucker Hicks, Jaylynn Hicks, Jayden Hicks, SIerra Hicks and Jesse Hicks; 3 step grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. John is also survived by his stepmom Leila Hicks of Mullen, NE, sister Dorothy Hardin of Casper WY, sister-in-law Artis Hicks of Mullen NE, sister-in-law Judy Petrick of Grand Island NE and his aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and several close friends.
John was preceded in death by his parents, his mother and father-in-law Jake and May Prindle, his brother Bill Hicks, 3 brother-in-laws, 1 sister-in-law and a niece.
