John Smith Obituary

John Arthur Smith, 70, Beulah, passed away on October 12, 2020.  Private family services will be held.

John was born September 5, 1950 to Opal (Fetch) and Roger Smith in Bismarck. John graduated from Benson High School (MN) in 1968 and from the Alexandria Technical School in 1970 with a degree in Production Agriculture.

John married Louella Heihn on April 20, 1974 and together they made their home south of Beulah and raised their family.  As a lifelong farmer, John also lived a life of community service, serving as a member and board officer for Farmers Union, Oliver County Planning & Zoning and District 33 Democratic Party.

John enjoyed tinkering with pretty much anything, going to auction sales, and cussing at his cows. He was a “jack of all trades” and could do it all – welding, woodworking, mechanics – and if he didn’t know how something worked, he would tear it apart and figure it out.

John is survived by his four children, Jeremy of Hazen, Jennifer of Bismarck, Michael (Darci Grunett) of Mandan, and Gary (Cassie Goetz) of Beulah; his grandchildren, Chrae, Ivy, Arial, Dorian and Jayden; Lou Ella & Ron Fix; brother, Jordan; aunt, Donna (Walker) Smith; close friends, Dan Bouta and Ed & Adeline Weiand; and many nieces, cousins, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Opal and Roger Smith; and his brothers, James and Joseph.

Arrangements are conducted by Barbot Funeral Home, Beulah and Hazen.
