Jon M. Carroll, 74, of Hazen, ND, passed away March 31, 2021, at Sakakawea Medical Center, Hazen. Private family services will be held.
Jon was born on November 27, 1946, in Tonasket, WA, to Robert “Bob” and Alice “Solly” (Sahlberg) Carroll. After ten years in Eastern Washington, they moved to Western Washington where Jon graduated from Raymond High School in 1965. Besides being active in many school activities, he also earned his Eagle Scout Award and Vigil Honor of the Order of the Arrow.
After high school, Jon attended the Colorado School of Mines in Golden, CO, earning an Engineer of Mines degree in January, 1971. At Mines, he was a member of Beta Theta Pi fraternity and a four year track letterman.
After college, Jon was employed by The Consolidation Coal Company in various locations, including the Glen Harold Mine for five years. Subsequently, he spent 24 years with The Coteau Properties Company, Freedom Mine, from which he retired in January of 2000.
While in Hazen, Jon became a twice Past Master of Masonic Lodge #116, once president of the Hazen Golf Club and twice State Chairman of the Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership Foundation.
Jon met his future wife, Kathy Tschaekofske, in 1988. For the next eight years, they vacationed/cruised to many places. They spent some time in Jamaica in 1995, fondly making it their “home away from home”. In March of 1996, they returned and got engaged and were married in July of that same year. They continued their various travels throughout retirement.
Jon is survived by his wife, Kathy of Hazen; step-sons, Derrick Aemisegger of Grand Forks, ND and Alex Aemisegger of Jamestown, ND; one brother, Jim Carroll of WA; his mother-in-law, Frieda Tschaekofske of Beulah; brothers-in-law, Ron (Shirley) and LeRoy (Jackie) Tschaekofske; nephews, Zac (Pam) Carroll, Aaron (Bri) Tschaekofske; nieces, Megan Carroll (Jeff) Baker, Nikki Tschaekofske (Doug) Liedholm, Heather Tschaekofske (Jeremy) Zwifel; four great nephews; four great nieces; longtime friends, Randy and Karen Stiller; and fur babies, Tiki and Sonki.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Bob and Solly Carroll; sister-in-law, Nancy Carroll; and Father-in-law, Eddie Tschaekofske.
