Joseph “Joe” Eugene Cresswell, Jr., Hazen, aged 78, died peacefully on September 11, 2023 at Sakakawea Medical Center in Hazen. A memorial service will be held in November with internment at the North Dakota Veteran’s Cemetery, Mandan, ND.
Joe was born and raised in Badin, North Carolina. He earned two bachelor’s degrees- one in metallurgical engineering and one in geology. Both degrees were from North Carolina State University. He was a proud Marine, serving tours of duty in Vietnam and Okinawa. Joe retired as a metallurgical engineer from Dakota Gasification Company in Beulah. Joe loved the outdoors and was an avid fisherman, hunter, and gardener. He loved his hunting dogs, most recently George.
Joe was married for nearly 50 years to his beloved wife, Janet Fishbein Cresswell. He is also survived by brother Jim Cresswell (Becky), sister-in-law Jill Harris (Bruce), brother-in-law Ken Fishbein (Jenny Boettcher), mother-in-law Rita Fishbein, nephews Eddie Sullivan, J.R. Cresswell, John Cresswell, David Harris, niece Wendy Harris (Brendan Cunningham), and many dear friends. He is preceded in death by parents Joseph E. Cresswell, Sr. and Elsie Sherman Cresswell, and beloved brother Bill Cresswell.
