Julie McLain Obituary

            Julie Rae McLain, 63 of Stanton, ND passed away Jan 11, 2022 from complications of Covid. Services will be held at 10:00 AM CST on Monday, January 31, 2022 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Stanton with Pastor Dennis Ristvedt officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

Julie was born April 15, 1958 in Aberdeen SD, to Ernest & Idella (Reuer) Neumiller. She was baptized at First Evangelical United Bretheren Church, Aberdeen, SD. Julie graduated from Bismarck High School in 1976. Following graduation she attended Minot State College earning degrees in Elementary and Special Education. She also received a Library Degree from Valley City State. After graduating she taught in St. Joseph Elementary, Williston and the Center Stanton School District.  She also was the Stanton Librarian loved by all children.  She touched and helped hundreds of children in her years of teaching, especially as the Title One Teacher.

On May 2, 1981 Julie married the love of her life Harold (Ed) McLain in Bismarck, ND. They shared 18 years of love together.

Julie and her late husband Ed lived in Williston where Ed was a manager at K-Mart. They moved to Stanton where they bought and ran the grocery store. Ed & Julie started the Old Man and Kid Fishing Derby which became a statewide event. Julie earned numerous Honorary Education Awards. She was very involved in her community, and church teaching Sunday School, VBS, and Regional and Local Library boards.

Julie’s favorite pastimes were reading, walking, jigsaw puzzles, adventures with friends Valerie & Faye, & time with her very special companion Wayne. She also loved to mentor kids.

Julie will be deeply missed by her foster Mom, Donella Engstrom of Bismarck & brothers & sisters, Gordon (Joel’l) Neumiller of Stanton; Jim (Tamara) Neumiller of Bismarck; Bonnie (Greg) Bechtold of Minot; Robert (Corine) Neumiller of Vail, AZ. Foster siblings: Terry (Engstrom) & Bill Upham of Lake Havasu City, AZ; Marnell (Kassandra) Engstrom of Lake Havasu City, AZ, Jay Engstrom of Minneapolis, MN and numerous special nieces and nephews.

  Julie was preceded in death by her husband Harold (Ed) McLain, nephew Trevor Bechtold,  sister, Cheryl (Neumiller) Neuman; brother-in-law, Keith Neuman; foster parent Leslie Engstrom; parents, Ernest & Idella (Reuer) Neumiller; Grandparents, Christian & Katherine (Klein) Neumiller;  and foster grandparents.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Stanton Public Library and Our Savior’s Lutheran Church.

Arrangements are conducted by Barbot Funeral Home, Beulah and Hazen.
