Julius Gaab

Julius Gaab, 99, of Bismarck, ND formerly of Richardton, ND passed away peacefully on Monday, March 2, 2020 at Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center, Bismarck. Services will be held at 9:30 MST/10:30 CST on Thursday, March 5, 2020 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Richardton with Fr. Thomas Wordekemper officiating. Burial will be held at the North Dakota Veteran’s Cemetery, Mandan at 3:00 PM CST on Thursday.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.

Julius was born on August 13, 1920 in North Dakota to George and Elizabeth (Himmelspach) Gaab. He was raised and educated in Richardton before being drafted into the U.S. Army during World War II. He married Kathryn Zentner on February 21, 1942. While Julius was in the service, they lived in Austin, TX and Lompuc, CA. They returned to Richardton in 1945 where he opened a meat processing business with his brother.

Julius was a member of the American Legion as well as the ambulance and fire department.

Julius is survived by his daughter, Judy (Murel) Spier of Beulah, ND; his grandson, Travis (Cari) Spier of Sioux Falls, SD; his granddaughter, Valerie (Randy) Ryberg of Menoken, ND; seven great-grandchildren, Elizabeth, Rachael and Sophie Jo Spier and Christian, Claire, Hanna and Lucas Ryberg; and his sisters, Minnie Schulz of Mandan, ND, Agnes Rehling of Richardton, and Irene Geck of Glen Ullin, ND; and three sisters-in-law, Pauline Gaab and Rachel Gaab, both of Richardton, and Marge Gaab of Park City, MT.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Kathryn; his son, Julius, Jr; three sisters, Frances Weiler, Cecelia Garza, Pauline Gion; and five brothers, Anton, Mike, Leonard, John and Clem Gaab.

Arrangements are conducted by Barbot Funeral Home, Beulah and Hazen.
