KAREN LOUISE MILLER, 80, died August 20, 2025, en route by ambulance to Sanford Medical Center.
Karen was born on August 6, 1945, in Fort Benning, GA to Gay and Melvin Marlenee. She was baptized at Federated Church in Salmon, ID. She is the oldest of four children and is preceded in death by her mother Gay Marlenee.
Karen was raised in rural Stanton, close to the Missouri River. On July 28, 1961, Karen married Gorden Miller. They resided in Stanton and were married for fifty-five years, until his death.
Karen was employed by the Mercer County Courthouse working for years in the Treasurer’s office, until her retirement.
Karen had a heart of gold. A smile so bright, it could have been a candle.
She loved to cook for her family and friends, making fleischkuekle, cucumbers and cream, kraut knoephla, knoephla soup, krauties, frying fish, canning pickles and jelly, and of course, her famous baked rice. Family and friends were always welcomed into her home and catered to endlessly. Her house was the one you could always go to and feel welcome.
Not only could she cook, but she had the greenest thumb ever. Everyone who knew her admired her luscious lawn and planters full of huge colorful flowers. She loved flowers. May she be carried to her final resting place surrounded by beautiful flowers everywhere. Along with loving flowers, she loved to feed the birds and squirrels in her yard, being sure to feed them everyday.
Karen loved crafts. She could paint, sew and make greeting cards for every occasion.
The last seven years of her life were spent being loved and adored by Jim Grannis and his dog Missy. Karen and Jim, together with Jane, Jess, Carrie (and others who decided to join in) played bingo, vacationed in Mexico and other destinations, got together for events, or for no reason at all. It was a great life!
For those who would like to attend, a funeral is scheduled for Wednesday, August 27, 2025, at 10:00 a.m., Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Stanton, ND. Burial will be at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church Cemetery North. No visitation is scheduled. In lieu of flowers, please consider the American Heart Association, Parkinson’s Foundation or American Cancer Society.
