Katie was born to John and Lydia (Miller) Schmidt in Beulah, North Dakota, on June 28, 1930. She attended school in Beulah and was then married to Herb Lang of Stanton, ND in 1946. Four children were born to this union who were: Larry (Judy), Allan, Judy (Kieth Piatz), and Jane (Mark Stinar). In 1970 Katie married Marvin Leer of Stanton, ND, who brought three children into the marriage; Lana (Dean Klindworth), Mark (Deb), and Brian (René). The following 55 years of marriage were extremely happy ones for Katie and Marvin and their years together will be cherished forever.
Marvin retired in August of 1994 and then he and Katie began their travelling life in a motor home for many years. In 2000, they purchased a home in the Rio Grande Valley of Texas and resided there during the winter months. In 2023 Katie and Marvin sold their home in Stanton and moved to Bismarck.
Katie had a large blended family which consisted of seven children, thirteen grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, five siblings and their spouses, one granddaughter, one great-granddaughter, one great-great-grandson, and two sons-in-law.
The family requests all memorials be given to Our Savior’s Lutheran Church of Stanton.
Arrangements are conducted by Barbot Funeral Home, Beulah and Hazen.
