Kenneth Foss Obituary

Kenneth D. Foss, 78, of Hazen, ND passed away on Wednesday, December 23, 2020 at his winter home in Mesa, AZ. A celebration of his life and burial will be held at the North Dakota Veteran's Cemetery in Mandan, ND at 11:00 AM CT on Monday, April 12, 2021.

Kenneth Duane Foss was born in Hazen on May 5, 1942 to Gordon and Edna (Sorensen) Foss. He grew up and graduated in Hazen, ND. After graduating he enlisted in the US Army and served his country for 23 years retiring as a CW3 and was the recipient of the Good Conduct Award, Army Commendation Award, Meritorious Service Award, and other honors. After retiring he moved back to Hazen and worked at DGC. He then moved to Las Vegas, NV in 1989 where he worked various jobs until he started his own small construction company. In 2005 he moved back to Hazen. 

Ken married Cheryl (Jacobson) Slinde on June 11, 1988 in Hazen. They were married for 32 years. He was a life time member of the Clark-Grosz Post 189 American Legion where he served as Post Commander, and District Commander. They had a winter home in Mesa, AZ where he was involved in the woodshop, making bowls and enjoying the activities there.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Gordon and Edna; his sister, Gloria; his brothers-in-law, Barry Boutilier and Lester Ketterling.

Ken is survived by his wife Cheryl; his sons, Kenneth (Catia) and children of Las Vegas, NV, Brian of Seattle, WA, and his daughter, Nicola Shiewe and her children; one sister, Eunice Ketterling of Mesa, AZ and his brother, Sylvan of Bowman, ND; two stepsons, Steve and Mike Pigeon of Hazen; his grandchildren; one great grandchild and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
