LaVern John Schilling, 93, of Beulah, passed away, Wednesday, April 15, 2026, at Sakakawea Medical Center, Hazen, under comfort care. Services will be held at 1:00 PM CT, Monday, April 20, 2026, at Barbot Funeral Home, Beulah with Pastor Kathi Nygaard officiating. Burial will follow at New Gluchstahl Cemetery, rural Beulah.
Visitation will be from 2:00 to 4:00 PM Sunday at Barbot Funeral Home, Beulah.
LaVern was born on January 1, 1933, in Bismarck, ND to Christ and Selma (Buelow) Schilling. He attended country school until the eighth grade. LaVern married Betty Lapp on October 16, 1955 in Hebron, ND. The couple farmed and raised cattle all their lives. In 2018, LaVern and Betty moved to Beulah. Betty passed away in 2020.
LaVern enjoyed the outdoors, fixing the tractor, making hay, fixing fence or taking care of the cattle. He also liked to drive his white Buick to Glen Ullin, Beulah and Hebron to visit with friends and enjoy a cup of coffee. He could also be found at the casino, usually winning. He loved to play pool in his younger years.
He is survived by his children, Debra (Rod) Koenig of Beulah; Glenn (Connie) Schilling of Bismarck; four grandchildren, Derek Koenig (fiancée, Terrie Nehring and daughter, Corey Joe), Cody (Sara) Koenig, Camie (Josh) Zenker and Charity Schilling; four great-grandchildren, Kashlyn, Kaysen, Irelyn Zenker and Emma Koenig; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty; his parents; his brother, Gilbert (Sadie) Schilling; and an infant brother, Ingrahm.
