LaVerne (Wiedrick) Kusmenko

LaVerne Kusmenko, 97, of Beulah, ND passed away Sunday, November 10, 2024 at Knife River Care Center, Beulah. Services will be held at 10:00 AM CST on Wednesday, November 13, 2024 at Prairie View Church of God, Beulah with Pastor Brian Filibeck officiating. Burial will follow at Beulah City Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 PM CST on Tuesday, November 12 at Barbot Funeral Home, Beulah.

LaVerne (Wiedrick) Kusmenko was born on December 18, 1926 to Rudolf and Sarah (Boeckel) Wiedrich.  She was the oldest of 8 children raised on the family farm north of Beulah.

She married Otto Kusmenko in a blizzard on November 2, 1943.  Together, they built a legacy together.  Otto and LaVerne decided early to build their marriage and family on the foundation of faith.   They raised their children, Carol and Calvin, to know and trust in God.  They taught them the value of hard work and the importance of church family. LaVerne was active in her church with singing and she played a variety of instruments during worship.

LaVerne and Otto shared many adventures together.  After they retired from farming, they enjoyed traveling in their motorhome for many years where they visited different campgrounds and made many friends.  Each stop provided them an opportunity to share their faith.  

LaVerne was an avid baker and great knoephla and fleischkuekla maker.  She decorated cakes for many occasions including multiple birthdays, weddings, and anniversaries.  She loved a good game of Rummikub, Skipbo, and was ruthless at checkers.   She enjoyed her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Her beloved Otto passed away September 21, 2013.  She loved and missed him dearly.  They  had spent many years caring for each other.  She held onto the hope that she would see him again.

LaVerne passed away peacefully in her sleep on November 10, 2024. She survived by her son Calvin Kusmenko, son-in-law Gaylen (Carol) Boeckel, Grandchildren: Jason (Liza) Kusmenko, Jody (Chris) Bauer, Terry (Yin) Boeckel, Teresa Boeckel,  Tonya (Trent) Eiseman.   Great-grandchildren:   Lucas, Claire, and Charlie Bauer,  Turner and Tysen Eiseman, David Boeckel, and Nicholai Kusmenko.  siblings:  Dale (Claudia) Wiedrick, Irene (John) Fehr,  Luella Martin,  Leslie (Katie) Wiedrick, Laura (Arnold) Wiedrick and many many nieces and nephews. 

She was preceded in death by her parents Rudolph and Sara Wiedrick, husband Otto, daughter Carol (Gaylen) Boeckel, daughter in law Barbara (Calvin) Kusmenko, brothers Marvin, Neil, and Arnold Wiedrick.
