Larry Beck Obituary

Larry Beck passed away on Thursday, February 12, 2026 at the Knife River Care Center, Beulah, ND. The family will be doing a private service and burial at a later date.

Larry was born on July 22, 1936, to Albert and Evelyn Boehler Beck. He grew up in Zap at the strip mine and graduated from Zap High School. Larry attended the North Dakota State School of Science and obtained an Associate Degree in Auto Body Repair.

Larry married Nancy Stephens Beck on December 11, 1960, at the Beulah Congregational Church. They have one daughter, Kristy.

Larry served in the U.S. Army at Checkpoint Charlie in Berlin, where he was a Field Communication Crewman and Radio Operator from 1960–1962.

Upon returning to Beulah, Larry worked for Henry at Spier’s Sales and Service for several years. He later joined his father, Albert, and his brother, Delmar, at the Indian Head Coal Mine in Zap. Larry worked many jobs at the mine, eventually becoming a dragline operator. As the mine wound down, he helped to reclaim the land and return it to agricultural use.

Larry loved to spend time in the great North Dakota outdoors. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved antiques and auction sales and spent many years traveling the state searching out Depression Glass. He had many great stories of good times with his auction sale friends! He loved to hunt for arrowheads, and most of all, he loved lending a helping hand to anyone who needed it. He could fix anything!

Larry is survived by his wife, Nancy Stephens Beck; his daughter, Kristy Beck-Nelson; sister, Sharon Bauer Beck; brother, Clayton Beck (Mary); sister-in-law, Sandra Stephens Brown (Jack); and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Evelyn Beck; Nancy’s parents, Vernon and Rebecca Stephens; brothers, Delmar Beck and Gerald Beck; brother-in-law Donald Bauer, sister-in-law, Penny Stephens; and son-in-law, Paul Nelson.

Larry and his family are deeply grateful for all of the wonderful care he received from the compassionate teams of caregivers in our local community.

Donations can be made in memory of Larry to the Sakakawea Medical Center Foundation or the Knife River Care Center Foundation.

Larry will be dearly missed. “Well done, good and faithful servant; enter thou into the joy of the Lord.”
