Larry Rosenau Obituary

Larry Alan Rosenau, 61, Hazen, North Dakota, passed away unexpectedly in his home on December 3, 2020.  His smile and kind heart will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.  Services will be held at 10:00 AM CST, Tuesday, December 8, 2020, at Peace Lutheran Church, Hazen.  Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck.  Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 PM CST, Monday, December 7, 2020, at Barbot Funeral Home, Beulah.

Larry was born to John and Betty (Burkart) Rosenau on May 14, 1959.  He grew up on the family farm near Tuttle, where he learned the ethics of a hard day’s work alongside his older brother, Daryl.  He attended English Lutheran Church and Tuttle School, graduating with the Class of 1977. Even at a young age, Larry liked to tinker with electronics and CB radios.  This led him to attend college at ND State School of Science in Wahpeton where he specialized in radios and communications.  After his employment took him briefly to Wyoming, Bismarck, and Dickinson, he made his home in Hazen.  Here he worked 32 years for Roughrider Electric Cooperative before he retired in 2018.

Larry was blessed with one son, Kyle John, during his marriage to Shelly (Weisenberger) Rosenau.  He later married Tauni (Chapman) Rosenau on May 2, 2006.  His heart and family grew with the addition of six step-children and nine step-grandchildren.  He took great pride in sharing his stories as “Papa.”

Larry had a love for nature and wildlife, with a special fondness for waterfalls.  He was an avid hunter and fisherman in his earlier years and enjoyed scoping out the big bucks.  One of his real joys was riding motorcycle or four-wheeler with his father, brother, and son through the pastures on the family homestead.

Grateful to have shared in his life are his wife, Tauni, Hazen; his son, Kyle, Mandan; his father, John, Bismarck; his step-children, Andrew Basley, Daniel (Felisha) Basley, Sherri (Chris) Kinn, Bethany (Phil) Karaba, all of Superior, WI; Spencer Mattheis, Fort Sill Training Camp, OK, and Mason Mattheis, Bismarck; grandchildren, Adam, Jenny, Bradan, Lillie, Brylei, Madelyn, Colton, Chloe, and Claire; as well as his brother, Daryl (Eileen) Rosenau,  Bismarck, and two nieces, Kristin (Chris) Olson and Kara (Sam) Caven.

He is rejoicing in heaven with his mother, Betty Rosenau.
