Obituary

Larry Zarr, 75, of Dodge, ND, passed away Tuesday, December 27, 2022, at the Hilltop Home of Comfort, Killdeer.  Services to celebrate his life will be held at 10:00 AM MST, Saturday, December 31, 2022, at St. Paul Catholic Church, Halliday with Fr. Joseph Evinger officiating.  Burial will follow at St. Martin’s Catholic Cemetery, south of Dodge.

Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 PM CST on Friday, December 30, at Barbot Funeral Home, Beulah.

He was born on October 1, 1947 to Steve and Gertrude (Duttenhefner) Zarr. The oldest boy of five children, he grew up south of Dodge. Larry attended country school early in his education and graduated from Dodge High School. Larry farmed all of his life on their home place. He retired and moved to Dodge in the fall of 2017.

Larry loved all animals, especially dogs and they loved him. He is survived by a very special dog, Shorty, a corgi rescue. He played pool and darts and was very talented at both. John Deere equipment was so very high on his list, he owned John Deere, read about John Deere and wore John Deere. Good jokes were a staple of the day!

Larry served on the Dodge Elevator Board, was a board member of the Halliday Rural Fire District and as an officer in the Dodge Saddle Club.

Larry loved his family. He looked forward to his "hunting weekends" with them. When they visited the farm he was so very happy. He enjoyed goose hunting with friends and relatives and had a few good stories to tell. Papa Larry played endless "bucking bull" games with his three "little buddies" and had endless tea parties with RaiLeigh when she was little. Countless Montana trips were made over the years and Larry gained another "little buddy", Colt. Beulah Miner and Viking football games were a favorite watch for him.

Larry was a wonderful man, kind, caring and always pleasant.

Thanks to all the wonderful people at Hilltop Home of Comfort for taking excellent care of Larry these past few weeks.

He is survived by brothers Dale Zarr, (Vicki), Duane Zarr (Kris) and sister Evangeline Schlender; nephews, Steve Fischer and Rick Fischer, Steve (Geri) Zarr, Jeremy (Amber) Zarr and Clint Zarr, Myron Schlender, Jason Schlender, Darvin (Janet) Schlender, Shane Schlender and Justin (Nakkara) Schlender; nieces, Tanya Fischer and Carisa Zarr; great-nieces and nephews, Regaen, Jackson, Owen, Jaeger, Zoe, Autumn, Jaelynn and Lynkn. He is also survived by Diane Allmendinger; Kelly Allmendinger (Nicholl), Tarri (Kendall) Joki and Chris Strommen. He was a very important "Papa" to RaiLeigh, Gus and Colt Strommen and Kendall Jr and Trygg Joki.

There to greet him in heaven are his parents; niece, Christy Zarr; sister, Deloris (Bob) Sergott; sisters-in-law, Loraine Zarr, Peggy Zarr; one brother-in-law, Norman Schlender; one nephew, Wayne Schlender; also to greet him in heaven is Jessica Strommen.
