Leroy ”Leonard” Flemmer was met by Jesus on October 2, 2025. He was born on April 10, 1945 at the Hillcrest Memorial Hospital in Beulah to John & Eva (Oberlander) Flemmer. He was raised on the family farm by Golden Valley. Since he had an interest in church,it was natural for him to ask Jesus in his heart early on. He was a beloved uncle who always exuded Jesus.
He was 16 when he decided to become a farm hand. School was hard for him, so it was easy for him to quit his education on the day he turned 16. He worked for farmers in this area and even out as far as Rhame, ND. He went on a custom combining crew for 4 years with his brother-in-law Reuben Krein. In the fall they constructed steel buildings. In 1979 his brother John said he could use help and he gladly agreed to come back home and help his brother. He remained a good help until around 2016 when it was noted that something was wrong, only to find out he had glaucoma and his eyesight (which hadn’t been good before) was getting worse. He had a hard time giving up what he had always done, but knew it had to be.
He continued to live on the farm until March of 2023 when he entered Senior Suites in Hazen because of declining health. In June 2025, he became a resident of Knife River Care Center.
He is survived by his brother John (Leona) Flemmer of Golden Valley, brother-in-law Norman (Judy) Biffert, 5 nephews and 11 nieces.
Preceding him were; His parents, Clayton (Bonnie) Flemmer, Evelyn (Reuben) Krein, Lorraine (Clarence) Lennick, Charlotte Wichmann, twin sisters: Maryland Flemmer and Shirley Biffert, nephews: Thomas and Emery Flemmer and nieces: Lois Cahoon & Linda Krein.
Services will be held at 10:00 AM CT on Thursday, October 9, 2025 at New Life Worship Center in Beulah with Pastor Ed Langeliers and Pastor Justin Werven officiating. Burial will follow at Hope Congregational Cemetery near Golden Valley, ND. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.
Arrangements are conducted by Barbot Funeral Home, Beulah and Hazen.
