Loretta Eagle Obituary

On February 9, 1933, Loretta Eagle was born at home in Elbowoods, ND to Martina Eagle. She attended school and graduated from Elbowoods School where she was crowned homecoming queen in her senior year.

Loretta was adopted by her Grandmother Annie Crows Heart Eagle and Grandfather James Eagle and later moved up to the Twin Buttes area during the flood of the Garrison Dam. James and Annie raised Loretta and her brother  Virgil Eagle during the Relocation Act. Loretta was adopted into the Waterbuster Clan by Edith Crows Heart/Likes Eagle.  She was taught her Hidatsa language by her mother Annie Eagle. Loretta took care of her Mother Annie until the time of her death

Loretta married Eugene Jacobs and lived in Honolulu, Hawaii as he was stationed at the Naval Base. She gave birth to her first child Bill Jacobs in Hawaii.  After 2 years of service, they returned to Twin Buttes. Loretta and Eugene went on to have 7 more children: Jim, Marilyn, Sharon, Eugene (Mosey), Darrell, Tammy and Tim. After many years this ended in divorce. Later She and her companion Gus Gegelman and Anita was born. Gus passed away. Later years she married Reuben Entze and they both raised grandson, Deon.

She was a homemaker most of her life. She worked at the Great Plains Gasification Plant.  While married to Reuben they owned and managed The Halliday Motel.

Loretta had a love for horses as she had a pinto horse in her younger years.  Once Her Brothers Richard and Roy Crows Heart sneakily put her on broncs.  They dared her to ride a bronc at a rodeo.  No one told her Mother and Father.  When the rodeo announcer said her name and she rode the bronc out is when they found out she had been riding broncs.  In 2021, Marvin Driver recognized Loretta as one of the few Ft. Berthold Woman Bronc Riders at his annual rodeo.

She enjoyed playing bingo, having her casino time, attending pow wows and community events with her friends and family. She enjoyed listening to her old-time country music and old gospel hymns. She loved to watch her game shows, the Lifetime movie channel and rodeos.

Loretta enjoyed baking homemade bread and was well known for her famous pies.  She enjoyed canning jellies, beets, watermelon and pickles. She always liked to dress up and kept a very clean home.  She liked her black hills gold and turquoise jewelry.

She was a very humble and faithful lady who always prayed when she was awake until she went to bed.  She always welcomed anyone in her home, her door was open to anyone. Loretta was a favorite auntie to many. She taught her children to always respect their elders and to feed visitors and give them coffee.

Loretta lived a very hard life and never let it get her down.  She always stayed strong with the help of the Lord and Savior. She was a member of the Twin Buttes Congregational Church.

Loretta loved spending time visiting her brothers and sister and family all over Ft. Berthold. She will be missed by her many Friends, Acquaintances, and Relatives. Have a good Journey.
