Lori Deane (Coombs) Hoots

Lori Deane Hoots, 91, of McClusky, ND passed away Sunday, December 21, 2025. Services will be held at 1:00 PM CT on Saturday, December 27, 2025 at McClusky Assembly of God, McClusky, with Pastor Charles Springer officiating. Visitation will be held from 11:00 to 1:00 PM CT on Saturday, December 27 at the church.

Lori was born on June 16, 1934 at her home with her identical twin, Lois. She was the daughter of John “Jack” and Gladys (Evans) Coombs. Lori graduated from Wessington Spring High School in 1955 and also completed a year of college. She taught school in South Dakota for one year prior to her marriage to Neale Hoots on August 11, 1957. They lived on their farm near Chaseley, ND for many years. Lori and Neale moved to Carrington, ND in 1978 to run the sales barn they purchased.

Lori worked at Golden Acres Manor in Carrington for several years. She had a group of very special co-workers who provided her years of laughter and fun. Lori moved to McClusky to be closer to her sister, Lois, in the early 2000s.

Lori and Lois worked together to fix up their dad’s house when Lori moved to McClusky in 2000. They hung sheetrock, tore down walls and hauled huge rocks for a patio and so much more. They could have had their own DIY show. The end result resembled a Hallmark home.

Lori moved in with Lois in 2008. Their bond with each other grew even more. The sisters baked together, made quilts, and enjoyed gardening together. There wasn’t anything they couldn’t do. Lori’s and Lois’ love language was to feed people. The world was blessed by it.

Lori thought of Lois’ children, Laurie Kay, Tom, Carmen and Margo, as her own.

The sisters were one soul in two bodies, a bond that can’t be explained but was amazing to witness.

Lori is survived by her daughter, Lois Fay of Mannington, WV; her sons,  Kent Hoots of Edgeley, Rick (Gayle) Hoots of Beulah and Jeff (Lisa) Hoots of Killdeer; eight grandchildren, Kristopher Waslaski, Tyler Waslaski, Bryant (Katherine) Hoots, Becky (Corey) Schick, Dakota (Christopher) Sundahl, Clae (Caitlin) Hoots, Ceaton (Paige) Hoots and Sage Hoots; 11 great-grandchildren; one sister, Lois Lasher of McClusky; and many nieces and nephews.

Lori was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Betty Grace and Virginia "Ginny"; an infant sister, Credwyn; her brother, Chet; and her grandson, Aric Hoots.

Arrangements are conducted by Barbot Funeral Home, Beulah and Hazen.
