Mabel, daughter of Leonard and Katie (Roesler) Sailer was born April 20, 1935, four miles southwest of Dodge where she grew up. She attended Dodge Public School and graduated as valedictorian in May 1953. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Dodge. After graduation she lived in Bismarck and worked at First National Bank until July of 1954.
She married her best friend and high school sweetheart, Ervin Lorenz, August 6, 1954, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Dodge. They lived with Ervin’s parents, Fred and Magdalena Lorenz, for a short time and then moved to the George Pitts farm where they lived for three years. From there they moved to the Carl Sailer farm three miles southwest of Dodge. In 1959, they moved to the Fred Lorenz farm, (Neil Lee homestead), three miles south of Dodge where they made their home until they became residents of the Knife River Care Center in December 2016. They were blessed with six children.
Mabel worked alongside Ervin on the farm. She milked many cows, was an excellent bookkeeper, did a lot of cooking for her family, hired men and friends. You never left there hungry. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church of Dodge where she participated in the ladies’ group, taught Sunday School and Bible School for many years, and was also a member of the Dodge Saddle Club and Commercial Club. Mabel devoted her life to her family. She was a very kind, gentle, loving woman and found good in everyone. We appreciated her many words of wisdom, advice, and encouragement. She set a good example for us to follow. She was known for her fresh baked homemade bread and special pancakes she loved to make for her family. She loved to play games, wahoo and cards with us kids and grandkids. She also liked pinochle, dancing, spending time with their friends and liked to be at home. The things most important to her were her faith, family, and friends. We were blessed to have a wonderful wife, mom, grandma, great-grandma and friend.
Mabel is survived by her children, Monica (Jerald) Isaak of Beulah; Cindy (Kerby) Entze of Golden Valley, Fred (Rita) Lorenz of Dodge and Charlene (Delon) Bauman of Golden Valley and one brother, Alvin Sailer of Bismarck; 11 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren; Carrie & Ken Miller (Cayden, Kwentin, Camden); DeAnn & Eric Braun (Damian (Larissa), Daxtyn, Dylan); Jason & Katie Isaak; Amber & Morgan Vercimak (Elyse, Bryce, Jayce, Reyce); Krista & Kenton Richau (KristiAnn); Stacy & Bob Johnson (Eastyn, Paetyn, Jaelyn, Lakyn); Kyle & Amanda Lorenz (Ella, Cash); Angie & J.D. Seidel; Jessica & Alex Wald (Bentley, McKoy, Stetson, Brekka); Jordan & Clancy Bauman (Denny, Tel); and Ty & Nicole Bauman (baby due in March).
She was preceded in death by her parents Leonard and Katie Sailer; her husband of 65 years, Ervin; two children, infant daughter, Carmen and son, Monte; her father and mother-in-law, Fred and Magdalena Lorenz; one sister and brother-in-law, Velma and Jack Olin; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Reuben and Lelia Sailer and Arthur and Sandy Sailer.
