Mandi Lyn Hjelmen, 39, of Beulah, ND passed away Tuesday, April 1, 2025. The family will be receiving friends from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM CT on Tuesday, April 8, 2025 at Barbot Funeral Home, Beulah, ND.
Mandi was born on April 14th, 1985, in Williston, North Dakota, to Susan and Ronald Pankowski. Mandi attended many schools throughout her years, but eventually graduated from Dickinson High School, in 2003, while she was expecting with her first daughter Eliza Grace.
Mandi’s life was defined by her love for family, her generous heart, and her instinctive ability to care for others. She always strived to make everyone feel like they belonged; she always made sure everyone was included in anything she was doing.
Mandi had a natural gift when it came to caring for young children and babies, especially her two (soon to be three) grandsons: Malcom Rey Herrick, Waylon Lee Garrett, and little Theo James Herrick. If the baby was upset or tired, Mandi always knew the cure. She had a true gift of motherhood.
Mandi is remembered by her parents, Susan Pankowski and Ronald Pankowski. They enjoyed watching her many activities growing up, such as, hockey, basketball, softball, band concerts (saxophone) and playing the piano. When Mandi was little, she loved being close to her dad, always sitting on his lap or near him. She loved going to the lake to swim and having picnics in the summer, going for walks, and spending time with friends and cousins riding bikes, sledding and going to Minnie’s.
Mandi is so loved by her four beautiful children, Eliza Grace Herrick, Joshua Aiden Herrick, Baya Jayde Hjelmen, and Jaxten Jaye Hjelmen. Mandi loved and took so much pride in her house and especially the backyard, with endless amounts of fun for young kids, like a tire swing and remote control cars. The older kids cherish the moments sitting out under the gazebo by the fire, talking, laughing, listening to music, and roasting smores by the fire.
Mandi had two brothers, David Thomas Pankowski, and Erik Edwin Pankowski, with children Janson Thomas Pankowski and Evalyn Marie Pankowski. Mandi loved to hang out with her big brother, driving around and listening to music. She loved watching Erik ride motocross. Mandi absolutely adored her niece and nephew Janson and Evalyn, always hanging out and playing during family holidays. Overall, everyone loved spending time together and being present.
Mandi loved animals. She is deeply missed by her two dogs Maisy Daye and Morlie Monroe. She loved and spoiled them to no end.
Mandi was a beautiful loving soul with many cool hobbies, she loved all things glam and makeup, she loved drawing, painting, tie dye, and overall being creative. She loved Tony Hawk Pro Skater 4 growing up, and could beat all the boys in the room. She loved travel and road trips, camping and cooking. Mandi will be dearly missed by everyone she met. We love you momma.
Mandi is survived by her parents, Susan Pankowski and Ronald (Marti) Pankowski, her children, Eliza Grace, son Waylon Lee. Joshua Aiden (Krystal), sons Malcom Rey and Theo James.
