Marcella was born July 25, 1935, to Gust and Erna (Redke) Adolf at the Hazen Hospital. She was the second oldest of three siblings. Marcella was baptized into Christ on August 25, 1935, and confirmed on July 17, 1949. She attended country school north of Hazen and graduated from eighth grade. Marcella married Alvin Knell on February 18, 1954, at St. Peters Church, rural Hazen. After they were married, they moved to the farm north of Hazen where they farmed their whole lives, raising grain crops, along with some pigs, cattle, raising and butchering chickens, gardening and canning. Together they raised three children and operated the family farm until February 1998. They then retired from farming and moved to Hazen where they owned a house for 19 years. They moved to Senior Suites where they lived for four years. Alvin passed in 2021 and Marcella stayed for two more years before moving the Knife River Care Center.
She was active in the church and was part of the LWML. Marcella and Alvin would enjoy going to Jam sessions and going out dancing whenever they could. Marcella and Alvin were members of the German Club and enjoyed singing German songs at the events. Marcella loved to play table and card games with family and friends. Pinochle was a favorite of the family. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting and embroidering. Marcella and Alvin went on a few trips which included Washington, DC, Branson, MO, Hawaii and Arizona.
Marcella is survived by her children, Clyde Knell, Audrey (Glenn) Myers, Lyle (Benita) Knell; grandchildren, Angie Faut, Scot Myers, Chase Fred, Mika Borgen; great-grandchildren, Mary and Anna Faut, Jade Wyatt, Parquer, Landyn, Kylie, Cole, Edi, and Leo Fred; one sister, Darlene Meissel; one brother, Bill (Esther) Adolf; one sister-in-law, Hertha Adolf; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Alvin of 67 years; one brother, Raymond Adolf; one brother-in-law, Elmer Meissel; one grandchild, Keegon Fred.
The family would like to thank the Senior Suites and the Knife River Care Center for all the special care and love that they gave to Marcella.
