Marlene "Sodie" Peabody Obituary

Marlene “Sodie” Peabody, 88, of Beulah, passed away Thursday, October 17, 2024, at Sanford Health, Bismarck, ND.  Services will be held at 10:00 AM CDT, Tuesday, October 22, 2024, at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, Beulah.  Burial will follow at Spring Creek Cemetery, rural Dodge, ND.  Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 PM CDT, Monday at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, Beulah.

Sodie was born September 15, 1936, in Dodge N.D. She attended school in Dodge and following graduation she went to Dickinson State and earned her teachers degree. Sodie taught at the country school by the Dressler ranch. She met Bowers Peabody who at the time worked at the Dressler ranch. On April 6, 1956 Sodie and Bowers were married. To this union five children were born.

Sarah (Denis Tibor), Sharon Erhardt, Jay (Pam) Peabody, Penney (Dean Emter) and Trisha Burghart.

In 1971, Sodie and Bowers purchased the grocery store in Dodge. In 1980, Sodie went to work at the Coyote plant south of Beulah as an operator.  In January of 1998, Sodie retired from the plant.

Sodie enjoyed going to basketball games to watch her grandsons play. She also liked to watch class B basketball on television.

She was well known for her cinnamon twists. If you stopped in for coffee, she would bring the twist out and before you knew it a few hours had flown by. Sodie enjoyed having company. She so enjoyed her condo friends. It was always a joy to hear the laughter in the hallways when they got together.

Sodie was a member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church and she served on the Women’s Action Recourse board. She was always willing to lend a hand.

In June of 2017, she married Elliot Lindbo. They made their home in Beulah. Together they took many outings. They would jump in the car and go for drives and never knew where they would end up. This past summer they were able to go to Dr. Lee’s cabin (thanks to Carl and Bev) they talked about that trip many times! They enjoyed attending the Medora Poetry gathering every year. There is no way to sum up one’s life in a single column, so the memories we have will be our treasure’s to keep forever! Elliot always says, “She had a winning smile!”

You will be missed mom, We Love You!

Sodie is survived by her husband, Elliot; and her children, Sarah and Denis Tibor, Sharon Erhardt, Jay and Pam Peabody, Penney and Dean Emter and Trisha Burghart; Elliot’s children, Barry, Duran and Joy; grandchildren, Patrick Kuntz, Matthew Peabody, John Peabody, Tegan Eddington, Brandi Foth, Jena Galindo, Chandra Stromme, Clay Burghart and Carli Burghart. 17 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Jolaine Bornemann and Janice (Mike) Isaak; numerous nieces and nephews.
