Marvin Usselmann Obituary

Marvin Usselmann, age 84, of Bismarck, ND, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 19, 2025, surrounded by loved ones at St. Alexius Medical Center. A service will be held at Peace Lutheran Church, Hazen, ND on Friday, September 26, at 10:00 AM CT, with visitation beginning at 9:00 AM CT.  Pastor Walt Wolff will officiate. Burial will follow at Hazen City Cemetery.

Marvin was born on New Year’s Eve in Hazen to Pius and Lydia (Kessler) Usselmann, the seventh of nine children. He was confirmed at Peace Lutheran Church. Marvin met Doris (Neuberger) in Stanton, and they were married at Peace Lutheran on September 2, 1962. Together, they farmed north of Stanton on the family farm and raised three children. Marvin farmed there for 40 years before moving to Hazen, where he lived for 25 years. He spent his final five years in Bismarck.

Marvin will be remembered for the love he shared with his family and the happiness he found in his farm and animals. He had a passion for music and took pride in driving his John Deere 4020 tractor. Marvin also enjoyed playing cards, watching old westerns, and reminiscing about the past, always sharing his memories with a sense of humor.

Marvin is survived by his loving wife, Doris; his children, Charlene (Kevin) Boeshans of Hazen, Stacy (Michelle) Usselmann of Mandan, and Lorie (Brent) McCarthy of Bismarck. He was a proud and devoted grandfather to Stephanie (Boeshans) and Pete Pfeifer of Coleharbor and their children Emerson, Easton, and Everly; Ethan Boeshans of Grafton; Evan Usselmann of Savage, MN, and his son, Evan Jr.; and Elliot, Anna, Everett, and Anthony McCarthy of Bismarck. Marvin is also survived by his sisters, Sally (Doug) Sailer of Mandan and Judy (Jeff) Hayden of South Carolina, as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Pius and Lydia Usselmann; his infant brother, Tony; his brothers Vincent and George, along with their wives, Ruth and Irene; and his sisters Ann (Eldor) Reinhardt, Marcella (Cleve) Rice, and Josie (Hank) Serr.

The family is deeply grateful to St. Alexius Medical Center for the compassionate care shown to Marvin in his final days.

Arrangements are conducted by Barbot Funeral Home, Beulah and Hazen.
