Maxine (Spear) Kremer

Maxine Kremer passed away Thursday, July 2, 2026 at Sakakawea Medical Center in Hazen, ND. A funeral service will be held Thursday, July 9, 2026 at 10:00 AM CST at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Stanton, ND with Pastor Dennis Ristvedt officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior.

Maxine Kaye Kremer was born to Fred and Viola Spear in Minot, North Dakota on July 8, 1949. She attended country school at Rosenfeld, south of Drake North Dakota and then attended Drake Public School and graduated in 1967. She attended Minot College of Business for 2 years and then started working at Minot Daily News in 1969.

Maxine met the love of her life and married Larry Kremer on November 21, 1970. In June of 1971, the couple moved to Round Up, Montana where Larry accepted a temporary coal mining job. A few months later, they were blessed with a son, Eric Larry Krener on October 3,1971. They returned to Stanton that same year where Larry accepted a permanent job with Glen Harold Mine. On September 18, 1972, they were blessed with a daughter, Shelley Dawn Kremer, who was born in Hazen, North Dakota.

Maxine enjoyed playing cards, especially gin rummy and pinochle. In her earlier years, she enjoyed camping at Lake Sakakawea with family and friends and had many amazing memories. Maxine was also a very good cook and those who knew her well, especially enjoyed her potato salad and homemade pickles. It was common for her to make about 300 quarts of pickles each summer which were devoured throughout the year. She also enjoyed playing pull tabs and collected lighthouses.

Maxine was also a wonderful wife and mother. Everything was always in order, " like so!" Larry used to work shift work and when Eric got a little older, he wanted to be the man of the house. One evening he wasn’t listening very well, and Maxine pointed to her watch and said, “Dad's going to be home in four hours.” He Straigtened up real quick. Sister Shelley was always an angel.

She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Larry Kremer; her son Eric Kremer and companion, Yvette Crawford; daughter Shelley Kremer; granddaughter Kimberly Kremer and companion, Levi GreyEagle; great-granddaughter, Peyton Kremer-GreyEagle; great-grandson, Landon GreyEagle, two brothers; Merle Spear and Jerry Spear, one sister; Noreen (Jeff) Rameden, many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Maxine was preceded in death by her parents; Fred and Viola Spear, her brother; Stanley Spear, her brother; Terry Spear, sisters-in-law; Linda Spear, Margo Spear, niece Dawn Schnase, Father-in-law; Peter Kremer, and Mother-in-law; Julia Kremer.
