Michael Piatz Obituary

Michael Joseph Piatz, 75, of Stanton, ND passed away Saturday, February 6, 2021 at his home in Stanton. Services will be held at 10:00 AM CDT on Saturday, June 5, 2021 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church, Stanton with Pastor Dennis Ristvedt officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

Michael J. Piatz was born June 8, 1945 in Hazen, North Dakota to Joseph and Stella (Yeager) Piatz.  He grew up and attended high school in Stanton.  Shortly after graduation, Mike joined the Army and served in Schweinfurt Germany from 1963-1966.  He returned to North Dakota and married his high school sweetheart Pamala (Krieger) Piatz on July 20, 1968.  The couple made their home and raised their family in Stanton where he worked as a mechanic at Glenharold Coal Mine and later for the Forty-niners as an Operator.

Mike was one of a kind and enjoyed entertaining himself and others with his rugged sense of humor.  He never missed an opportunity to tell a story or poke good-hearted fun at a friend. He loved to laugh, made friends easily, and was fiercely loyal to those that he loved. Mike was known far and wide for many things; from his ability to fix most anything to his willingness to help a stranger. He didn’t frequent the Lord’s house much but lived a Christian life through his charity for folks he knew and loved and some he never met.

He is survived by two sisters, Janice (Piatz) Ammon of Jamestown, ND; Eileen (Piatz) Norenberg of Albany, OR; his daughter, Lacey (Piatz) Pirnie and husband, Doug, Hot Springs, SD; his son, Shawn and wife, Jamie Piatz, San Antonio, Texas; three grandchildren, Addie, Callie, and Wyatt Piatz; one brother-in-law, Jim Grannis; his nephew, Joe Grannis and wife Dawn; one sister-in-law Judy Piatz; his niece, Mona and nephew, Lorin and wife Trina Ammon; nieces, Nikki Lambert; Crystal Boyd and Mindy and husband Tom Weist; and close family friend, Pam Vollmuth

Mike is preceded in the death by his wife Pam; parents Joe and Stella, sister Shirley, brother Keith, brother-in-law Bill Norenberg, brother-in-law Arlon Ammon, nephew James “Jimmy” Grannis, niece Lori Ammon.
