Myron Maas Obituary

Myron D. Maas, of Hazen, ND, entered into Christ’s heavenly kingdom on Friday, June 24, 2022 at the age of 75.  He passed away at the Knife River Care Center, Beulah, ND surrounded by his family.  Visitation will be Friday, July 1 at St. Matthew Lutheran Church from 12:00 to 2: 00 pm, followed by the funeral service at 2:00 pm.  Following the service, Myron will be laid to rest with military honors at St. Matthew Lutheran Cemetery.

Myron was born on September 8, 1946, in Hazen, ND.  He graduated from Hazen High School, class of 1964.  Then he graduated from the North Dakota State College of Science, Wahpeton, ND, in 1966, with a degree in Electrical Technology.  Shortly after that, Myron started his own electrician business, which he owned and operated from 1970-2020.

Myron was adopted by God through the waters of baptism, and clothed with Christ’s righteousness, on November 3, 1946 at St. Matthew’s Lutheran church (Hazen, ND).  Myron affirmed his Christian faith when he was confirmed on June 19, 1960.   For the rest of his life, Myron lived out his faith by being a faithful husband to his beloved bride, Bonita (Bentz), whom he married on June 7, 1969; and was a godly example to his children and grandchildren.  Myron was also known for loving his neighbors even more than he loved himself, joyfully following Jesus’ command to “Love thy neighbor”.  Myron did not serve others out of obligation, though, but rather out of his abundant love for his Lord.  Myron loved his Savior and was never reluctant to talk about Him or praise Him.

As a Master Electrician, Myron had many gifts and talents to share with the community that meant so much to him.  He took his vocation (as an electrician) seriously, and was a perfectionist about it: because he knew that God was using him to be a blessing to others.  That’s why Myron often volunteered his services to others, without counting the costs of time or money.  He loved to help others, which is why he was so willing to do it.  Myron also supported the work of the Church, by being an Elder and trustee for St. Matthew’s Lutheran church and by sponsoring numerous missions and missionaries.  Myron also loved his country and served honorably in the North Dakota Army Reserves.

Myron appreciated God’s creation immensely and spent his time enjoying it by fishing, gardening and traveling (especially to Canada, where he used an airplane to get to his favorite, isolated fishing spot).  Myron was given a second chance at life by receiving a kidney transplant from his son, Troy, on April 19, 2001.

Myron was preceded in death by his parents: Rudolph & Frieda Maas; his brother, Melvin Maas; his sister-in-law, Harriet Maas; and his niece, Sherry Maas.  Myron is survived by his wife, Bonita; his daughter Tracy (Jason) Wolter, and their three children (Jacob, Isabella and Zerubbabel), of Benson, MN; Troy (Dina) Maas, and their two daughters (Elise and Isla), of Bismarck, ND; Timothy (April) Maas, and their two children (Olivia and Calvin), of Thief River Falls, MN; his brother Dallas (and wife Monica) Maas, of Hazen, ND; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
