Noel Helm

Noel Helm, 84, of Beulah, ND passed away Tuesday, May 28, 2024 at his home. Services will be held at 10:00 AM CDT on Monday, June 3, 2024 at Concordia Lutheran Church, Beulah with Rev. Toby Heller officiating. Burial will follow at Beulah City Cemetery.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.

Noel was born on June 18, 1939 in Mandan, ND to Jack and Clara (Ellwein) Helm. He was raised on a farm west of Zap, ND. In 1946 his family moved to Gascoyne, ND where Noel started the first grade. Noel didn’t know how to speak English then and today he knows very little German. In 1951, Noel moved back to Beulah where he graduated from high school in 1958. During the summer months, he worked for Helm Brothers Gravel Pit in Mandan. Noel then began working for Knife River Coal Mining Co. in 1959 and retired from there in 1995. He also went into partnership with his father and purchased the John Fischer farm, eight miles south of Beulah. They also operated a feed lot on the outskirts of Beulah.

Noel married Betty Jean Maier on February 16, 1959 at Concordia Lutheran Church, where they are still members. The couple had five sons, Jerome, James, Wayne, John and Jason. Noel and Betty enjoyed bowling, boating, camping, fishing, playing cards and spending time with their children, grandchildren and friends.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Betty of Beulah; four sons, Jerome of Beulah, Wayne (Sandy) of Bismarck, ND; John (Ivone) of Ft. Myers, FL and Jason (Mandy) of Bismarck; six grandchildren, Brooks, Emry, Emily, Ella, Max and Jack; one brother, Clifford (Diana) Helm of Bismarck; one sister, Pat (Mark) Frafford of Minnesota; one brother-in-law, Link Reinhiller of Beulah; and many nieces and nephews.

Noel was preceded in death by his son, James Jonathan; his parents, Jack and Clara; his brother, Norbert (Marilyn) Helm; his parents-in-law, John and Ella Maier; his sisters-in-law, Polly (George) Tabor and Josie Reinhiller.

Arrangements are conducted by Barbot Funeral Home, Beulah and Hazen.
