Patricia "Polly" Shetler Obituary

Patricia “Polly” Shetler, 78, of Minot, North Dakota passed away Wednesday, January 10, 2024 at Trinity Health, Minot. Services will be held at 11:00 AM CST on Monday, January 15, 2024 at Prairie View Church of God, Beulah, ND with Pastor Dean Boeckel officiating. Burial will follow at Beulah City Cemetery, Beulah.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.

Polly was born on July 21, 1945 in Baltimore, Maryland to David Lee and Nancy Maebelle (Brannon) Fortenberry. She was raised in Cornelius, NC and graduated from high school in the spring of 1963. In October 1963, Polly had her first date with James “Tommy” Pender. They were married on August 7, 1964. The couple welcomed daughters, Anne-Marie on May 31, 1965 and Beth-Ann on August 7, 1967, which was also their third wedding anniversary.

Polly always made the house, wherever they lived, a home: East Spencer, NC; Wilderness Creek, VA; Oakdale, Nealsville and Lillington, NC; Newville, PA; Columbia Heights, MN; Norris City, IL; Warwick, Rhode Island; Nitro, WV; and Beulah, ND.

Tommy passed away in 1984. Polly remained in Beulah until 2008 when she married Paul Shetler and moved to Filer, Idaho. Polly quickly embraced Paul’s large family and looked forward to anyone dropping by for a visit. She especially enjoyed all the “Great-Grands”. Her church family, wherever she lived, has always been very important to her. Filer, ID was no exception. She loved having Bible study in her home and attending services at Fellowship Community Church.

Polly always gave a smile and kind words to anyone she met. She never hesitated to tell someone that “The Lord is good”.

She is survived by her daughter, Anne-Marie Boeckel and her husband, Dean, and their children: Maxwell Boeckel, Gabrielle (Mitchel) Flick and Téa Boeckel; her daughter, Beth-Ann Hinton and her daughter, Lori Beth (Jaxon) Boykin and their daughter, Willow Rose; her step-children, Gary (Linda) Shetler, Mike (Carol) Shetler, Pete (Esther) Shetler, Debbie (Brad) Stinson, Jack (Renee) Shetler and Tim (Kelli) Shetler; three sisters, Prissy (Rudy) Sherrill, Joy (Ronnie) Lineberger and Gail (Jackie) Lineberger; one brother, Ray Fortenberry;  two sisters-in-law, Aundria Jones, Dollie (Jack) Jackson; one brother-in-law, Howard Eugene, Jr. (Jane) Pender; and many nieces and nephews.

Polly was preceded in death by her husbands, James Thomas Pender, Herb Boeckel and Paul Shetler; her mother and father; her sisters, Charlene Garris and Linda Stephens; her brother, David Fortenberry; and son-in-law, Dennis Hinton.
