Paul Sayler Obituary

PAUL D. SAYLER, 64, of Hazen, ND passed away on October 29, 2021 at Sakakawea Medical Center, Hazen, surrounded by his family after a courageous three and a half year battle with cancer.  Services will be held at 10:00 AM, November 4, 2021, at Peace Lutheran Church, Hazen, ND with Pastor Mark Martin officiating.  Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 Wednesday, November 3, at Barbot Funeral Home, Beulah.  Burial will take place Thursday following the celebration of life at the Underwood Cemetery.

Paul was born September 18, 1957 in Garrison, ND to John and Adele (Nodland) Sayler. He was raised on the family farm near Underwood, ND and graduated from the Underwood school in 1975. He began working at Coal Creek Station in 1979 until 2010. He began working for Trotter Construction driving truck in 2011 until his retirement in 2018.

Paul married Luann Berg July, 20 1979 and they were blessed with two daughters from this union, Tracy and Lisa.

On May 30, 2003 he married Dawn Palmer. From this marriage he gained three step children, Amanda, Chris and Katie. He took this on wholeheartedly and raised and loved them as his own.

He was an avid outdoorsman. There was nothing he looked forward to more than deer season. All that hunted with him knew he was a firm believer that Neil Diamond started every hunt. Paul spent all seasons out fishing with his family. His love for the outdoors was shared with all of his kids through hunting, fishing and camping. He and his stepson were just recently able to fulfill his once in a lifetime moose tag.

His pride and joy in his life was his kids and his grandkids. Paul would tell anyone who would listen about each one of them, including pictures. Nurses and Doctors across the state knew them all! Everyone who has ever met Paul knows he loved to visit. He seemed to make a friend wherever he went. Paul was a gentle, loving soul that touched so many lives through laughter and a tender heart.

Blessed to have shared in his life is his wife, Dawn, daughters, Tracy (Wes) Fischer and Lisa Parsons; step-daughters, Amanda (Waylon) Boyer and Katie (Chansey) Jewell; stepson, Chris (Kayla) Palmer; grandchildren, Sierra Unruh, Aireon Jesser, Dylan and Keira Fischer, Hailey and Colt Palmer, baby Jewell; one great-granddaughter, Amelia Champagne; brothers, Pete, John (JoDee), Danny (Denice) and Mark (Sheri) Sayler; one sister, Ruth Reberg; as well as numerous nieces and nephews, cousins and extended family.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Matt; one sister-in-law, Sandy Sayler; brother-in-law, Tim Reberg and mother-in-law, Marilyn Melchior.
