Raymond was born May 15, 1941 in Tacoma, WA to John and Anna (Lorenz) Simpfenderfer. He was raised and educated in Dodge, ND. Ray worked on his grandfather’s farm and for other farmers in the area.

He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in February 1960, serving on an aircraft carrier, the USS Coral CVA 43. This gave him the opportunity to see Japan, China and Korea. He was honorably discharged in February 1964.

Ray married Sandra Dschaak in September 1964 and the couple had two children, Danny Ray and Lorie Ann.

Ray had several jobs, including managing the Main Bar, building electrical towers across the state, and finally retiring from UPA Great River Energy in 2002 after 30 years of service.

Ray enjoyed camping and fishing in his younger years. One of his campers was a school bus he remodeled. Ray was also a member of the Hazen Wrangler Saddle Club. He enjoyed riding horse and entering jackpot roping events. His favorite activity later in life was gambling at Prairie Knights Casino.

Raymond is survived by his daughter, Lorie Carr of Hazen; his grandchildren, Baylee (Estee) Carr of Bismarck, ND, Stetson (Julia) Carr of Grand Forks, ND, Wyatt (Madison) Carr of Bismarck, and Laini Carr of Hazen; a special friend, Marva Finck of Bismarck; one sister, Alice Tibke of Beulah, ND; and several nieces and nephews.
