Rising Sun Irwin Obituary

Rising Sun Robert Lewis Irwin “Brave Wolf” was born on January 1, 1987, two hours into the new year, to Rose Marie “Twiggy” and Darin Charles. He was the first grandson to the late Ronald “Sammy” Little Owl and Evalon Crows Heart and first great-grandson to Marie Eleanor (Lincoln) Crows Heart. He was a member of the Prairie Chicken clan.

When the family moved to New Town, Rising Sun made many new friends, met relatives and had close bonds with everyone he crossed paths with. Rising Sun had a big smile and twinkle in his eyes that everyone fell in love with.  He was a motivator, helped in any way he could, and his presence would light up the whole room.

His grandpa Sam gave him his Indian name after going into a sweat ceremony, and the name Rising was given was Brave Wolf. He took his name with such great pride. It suited him with the obstacles that came his way in life.

The love of basketball began for Rising Sun when his uncle Heath Harmon gave him his first basketball. He loved the sport so much, his mom and him faithfully watched Chicago Bulls (Michael Jordan). His favorite player was Kevin Garnett and favorite team was the Jayhawk’s. He always played basketball throughout life. Rising Sun would go to 3rd street every day after school to Chance Johnsons and play basketball with all his friends. Rising Sun also was obsessed with shoes and would wear them maybe once and put them back in their boxes, so they always looked fresh. At a young age his love for music began, by listening to Def Leopard with his mom, including doing all the dance moves. His taste in music evolved to rap and hip hop with his favorite artists being Nipsey Hussle and G-Unit. He could often be found driving his truck and blasting his music.

While growing up, he took his role seriously as a big brother when it came to his brother Eagle Scout and two sisters Dancing Echo “Baby Girl” and Red Feather. He also took great joy in hanging out with his uncles Paige, Paul, PJ “Uncle Buck”, Dominick, Adrian “Ross”, Derrick and Albert “Boss”. He truly did miss his uncle’s PJ and Ross when they passed.

Fatherhood came easy to Rising Sun, in 2016 he and Farhen Fox welcomed their son Bohdi Lane. Bohdi was his pride and joy. Bohdi meant the world to Rising Sun, they bonded over play time when they would play with cars and trains. Rising Sun was also a loving father figure to Dayce Knight and loved spending time with his nieces and nephews; Ariana, Faith, Chloe, Tehya, Sam, Eliah, Kellen, Ross, Kai, Xtesh, and Iziah. They looked up to him and they had that special bond with him.

In August 2019, Rising Sun met whom he called his “perfect love” Tamsen Star O’Berry. He was proud and protective of her, and he was excited to make changes in order to build a life with her different than he had known before. They shared a deep, loving bond.

In December of 2019, Rising Sun went to Florida to make a better life for himself and his family. He broke his leg in February and this resulted in him being hospitalized for over a month.  Rising Sun decided to check himself out of the hospital and return to ND for continued medical care so he could be closer to family. This is when he suffered a cardiac arrest with blood clots in his lungs which eventually lead to irreversible brain damage. On March 25, 2020 with his mother hugging him and Eagle and Echo holding each hand reassuring him it was ok to go; he left this world and started his journey home.
